engine failure
this is my first time posting, so pardon my ignorance in advance, but i am a 1st gen CL owner who has been having serious engine problems lately.
my engine just cuts off sometimes as i am slowing down, making turns, and occasionally when i am just starting out. i just had the ignition switch replaced, but am still having these problems.
does anyone have a clue what might be the problem?
btw, can someone tell me the exact function of the EGR valve?

egr valve recirculates exhaust gases back in to the intake so it can be burned off all the way. usually will cause light to come on and gas milage to go down.
it sounds like u got eather a TPS (throttle position sensor), or like i had a problem with was the IAC (idle air control valve) if there is no check engine light besides when it dies, i would change the fuel filter first. as that is the cheapest thing to do. and a car can always use a new one. both of the above valves can be changed by urself. unless ur really not mechanically inclined at all. is there a check engine light on when it is running? if it is any of the sensors i would think its the TPS sensor. get back at me.

thank u so much for your input. i wish i would have looked for this site sooner.
wilp: the light stays on. i just had the both the fuel pump and fuel filter replaced not more than a month ago. that was the last time, as chinisimo suggested, it idled really low.
another funny thing that i am noticing, it seems to be more likely to cut off during the day than at night. especially the first time each day i leave the house for a drive.
i'm not that mechanically inclined, but i sure will be to save myself from dumping more $$$ to these mechanics.
