engine detonation q
75 shot of nos.. with a 2.2 '97.. no engine work, but after a few runs with nos the car kinda screws up around 5 grand without nos afterwards.. its either its running to rich, or the engine's breaking.. well i know that.. or is it the fuel pump giving it too much fuel? is there some type of safety feature that turns the rev limit down after the engine runs really fast or something? it feels like the rev limiter hits at 5 grand.. i run the car at idle for a few minutes to get the nos out of the engine, and turn it off a few times, and it runs fine again.. any one experiencing the same probs? or is my engine just slowly blowing up

75 shot is pretty big. May be "blowing out" your plug arc. Is it a stock ignition? At higher rpms the coil has less time to "charge" between fires so the intensity of the arc drops. The amount of nitrous youre flowing may be enough to overwhelm the spark.
You can either upgrade the ignition or drop your gap on your plugs.
Im guessing. The only reason I think its this is because you only have the problem while on the bottle. You dont have any probs above 5000rpm without the bottle do you?

Sounds like you're running way lean. Do you have an EGT or A/F meter? If it feels like you're hitting the rev limiter way before redline, that means that the ECU is cutting spark/fuel to the motor because it's detected a problem (most likely a lean run condition), which means that spraying NOS when this happens is very very very bad!
Letting the car idle to clear everything out doesn't do anything because the contents of the cylinder are ejected with every other piston stroke anyway.
I'd lay off the NOS until you determine (via a gauge) what the problem is. I doubt it's too much fuel because that wouldn't cause the engine to cut spark; it would just stall it & you'd see smoke coming out the exhaust beforehand.

My opinion....Spend $20 on four new plugs (NGK, HKS, etc). Gap em at ~.038" (stock is .044"). Try running off the bottle then. It may or may not help but all your out is 20 bucks and maybe lose an hour of your life. On the other hand if the problem gets better at all you may be on the right track and look into an ignition upgrade.
RidinLow is right running lean wont help you either. Any idea where you fuel pressures running? Need a fuel filter change? Fuel pressure regulator maybe.

i haven't done anything to fix it.. it started doing it at random now without use of the bottle for a few days.. seems like fuel still.. friend said to get a fuel regulator thingy for my fuel rail.. 40 bucks or so.. and new sparks.. is a def, but new ignition wouldn't be necessary

While your at it, you may want to look at replacing your fuel filter. Night and day difference when I had mine changed. Dont know how often your supposed to....~every 30K miles?

IMO that filters are filters. The one AEM makes uses a replaceable filter (fram i think) and is more for show than anything. The only thing it could do is bump up your pressure w/o a regulator.
