EGR Valve Code P1491 99CL3.0

I own a 1999 Acura 3.0CL. My check engine light came on with Code P1491 - Malfunction in EGR system - Exhaust Gas Recirculation - Insufficient Lift. I have about 114K miles on the car. I took it to Acura of Denville, NJ - they said it was under recall and performed the EGR kit replacement for free, the bill said $211.26, performed at no cost.

You should also check to see if the Ignition/shift-interlock was changed. That is a real biggie, your engine can just shut off while driving... a flaw in the ignition switch electrical contacts. It also can make your shift lock not function properly. Isn't there one other... Man, I can't remember.

The shift/interlock recall also affected 97-99 Honda Accords. My wife's Accord had to be retrofited and so did my CL.

Yes they will fix it, it is a safety recall. No warrentee required.

The ignition issue is real bad in the south where it is humid. The contacts had an impropper electroplating that would tarnish to the point of failure.
