EGR question

im sure this has been discussed alot on here but im new and i couldnt find it... basically my check engine light came on a few months ago and my mechanic told me it was my egr valve, so i replaced it but the light wouldnt go off and i just went to get my car inspected last week and it failed bc the computer was still reading insufficient flow, anyone have any advice?

Reset your ecu. Did you replace the egr valve yourself? Check for loose hoses.

Just do this: Unplug your negative terminal (- black -) from your battery and leave it unplugged for a few minutes. Make sure the terminal doesnt touch any metal. I usually just leave it on top of a rag. After that just plug it back on, and start your car. Let it sit there for 5 min (with the car running) so that the ecu can do what it has to do (it reads everything so that it can adjust itself accordingly to what it reads).....If the check engine light comes back on within a few weeks, let us know.

he can't just put in the new valve. ask him if he drilled out the carbon deposits in the intake manifold

btw, you could've taken it to the dealer, you could still be under the emission extended warranty since you have a 97 3.0

yea thats what my mech told me, he said he probably didnt clean all the carbon out which does me no good since i failed inspection bc of that, and yea, i wish i had known that my car was still under warranty bc when i called the dealer he told me that emission problems were still covered but now my problem is theyre probably gonna get out of it bc i had someone other than an acura mech do my work...

don't tell them that you have someone else touched the car. besides, if your mech is a certified mech, it shouldn't void the warranty anyway.

just go into the dealership and pretend you've never talked to them b4
