EGR Problem

Hi, I have a 98 CL 3.0, 91K miles with a code 0401 (EGR flow insuficient)
I've heard of the 97 CLs being covered under an Acura warranty and called the local dealer. He told me that he has to run a diagonostic ($99) to find out the problem and he'll fix it for free if it is a plugged EGR port and if it is a bad EGR valve, I will have to pay for both the diagonostic check and the part and labor (about $300) .

Has anybody in here had the same problem with a 98 3.0 and had it fully covered under warranty?

And where can I get a copy of the service bulletin that talks about the warranty coverage?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I already had the codes pulled by Autozone.
I am concerened about the Acura Dealer.
I would like to get a hold of the service bulleting that details the warranty coverage before I go back to the dealer.

I have a 98 3.0. I had my EGR valve and ignition switch changed out for free by the dealer. I called them up and they told me that the there was a recall on the ignition switch and an extended warranty on the EGR valve. This was Fall of 2003. I did a search on google for "EGR recall acura CL". The first site that comes up is alldata.com. Here is the link: http://www.alldata.com/TSB/01/98011131.html

Hope this helps.

Yes.. It did help thanks.

I just called Acura and here is the info.

98 CL 3.0 is only covered under the extended warranty for 8 years or 80,000 miles.

I guess I'll try to clean the valve myself. Any info on how to do that? also how to clean the EGR port?

Thanks

I have a '98 3.0 and I got Acura to pay for the EGR cleaning and replacement @ 82k miles. Call Acura's customer care line and explain the issue and see if they will make an exception to pay for it. You'll have to get the dealer to 'diagnose' the problem first so that Acura has proof of the exact issue before they will consider paying for it.

Good Luck
