EGR port cleaning 2.2cl

Alright, so I'm throwing the P0401 code (EGR insufficient flow) and I found a write up for the F22:

http://www.dhost.info/accordinfo/howto/egr.html

However, its not very detailed.

When I clean the built-up carbon from the EGR ports on the intake manifold, am I supposed to let all the carbon just fall into the intake manifold and get sucked up when I turn the car on? Will this hurt it?

Thanks

If the buildup has reached your lower intake manifold, some it will inevitably have to fall down in. However, most of your buildup will probably be in the upper, which you can remove from the car and clean

did you check to see if you're able to get the EGR recall?

I finally cleaned out my EGR port yesterday. All 4 holes going into the intake manifold were 100% clogged with carbon. it took about 2 hours of scraping and soaking in carb cleaner but it was well worth it. The car idles smoother and is much smoother throughout the entire power band. Idles lower at startup and takes less time to warm up. Its too early to be conclusive, but gas mileage seems to have been restored. Best mod yet and really not very hard using the instructions in the link i posted above.

Damn, 2 hours? You must have gotten every speck of carbon.

Good point. I did notice better gas mileage after cleaning it out. It was something like +5 mpg.

i just took out my manifold and cleaned it out but i have a question. Do I have to change the gasket (the green thing)? a friend told me id have to change it no matter what, and i hosed down my manifold so now its wet as well. can i just waitfor it to dry and keep it, or do i have to switch it out? how much does it cost?
