Effect of air suspension on tires (56k beware)

Well, after about 1 1/2 years, I final have a tire that is so worn it won't hold air. Time to order new ones.

Here is what happens at -15 degrees camber.

So now I am sporting the old meats until my new tires come in

not bad, i've gone through tires in less time on more then one occasion.

I figured you guys didn't ride that low and had an alignment done at driving height?

Alignment is really pointless with air ride...

Ya cept for the fact that his tires still have tread, that sucks dude. How much do you drive a year and about how often is your car all the way down?

Yeah. Those were Z series Exsta Supra 712's with a tread ware rating of like 220. My next ones have a treadware of 480, so I should get 3+ years out of them.

No, just from riding low all the time causes all the wear to happen on the inside. When low, the tires are angled in at the top /---\ instead of |---|. So the inner 1/4 - 1/3 of the tire gets all the abuse. Handles great though....

I went through a new set of paradas in like 6 months I wanted to kill myself, it was my fault thouhg, I was well over -3 degrees Even w/ my alignment I ran down to the metal of my last set also

And alignment isn't pointless at all w/ air ride, atleast everyone I know does it. Isn't your driving high pretty standard or are you changing it all the time? Everyone I know gets an alignment done at their normal driving height, saves their tires a ton.

Dude thats nothing, my friend in his mustang lowered and he went through a set of Kuhmos in about 3 1/2 months. Not only down to the tread like how yours looked but also very bald especially on the right tire (he has put posi since then)

I ride about 1" higher than it sits in that picture above. My alignment (toe, straightness) is fine. You can't adjust camber on our cars with that much neg. camber. YOu would have to make custom upper control arms (longer) and modify the fender to accomodate.

Hmmm...next project ?

Are you sure the reason that one isn't holding air is because there is a nail in the tire? I know guys with air ride, that have camber kits in the front that are set at ride height and their tire wear is minimal.

What nail? Besides, both of those tires have air. The top is

There is no way you can correct camber on my car. Period. Unless I am all the way up, I have negative camber. Drop it 8-9 inches, I have -15 degree camber. Who makes a camber kit to correct that?

wtf?!?! the car is 8-9 inchess of the ground stock? Dud you should never ride that low unless you are on some nice ass paved roads.

well dude, you don't drive all the way down. So raise it up to an avg driveable height. I'm at 3"+, couldn't go much lower while driving and had -3+ degrees of camber. That can easily be solved.

Now you probably won't drive at that height all the time, for example while cruising. But when doing normal driving you'll save a ton of tire wear. That's how all my friends on air do it.

As far as camber correction goes, I'm refering to ride height not when the car is at layed height. At ride height normally, the car is only dropped around 2.5" at which a camber kit could easily correct at that height.

Guys, I am serious, I literally drive it barely off the ground. I am tucked to the rim, about 1-2" from being layed out. Many times I pull into the garage, lay it out to find that I was almost already there. Usually I am right at rubbing the top of the fender when I turn. That little lip of the fender well liner that comes out flush to the edge of the fender opening....gone at the top from turning. I don't drive to work, and the roads I drive are perfect, so there are no bounces.

Anyway, I say these tires lasted 1.5 years, but keep in mind, that was driving about 200-250 miles a month at most.

And look at that last picture above, you can see the tire underneath has almost full tread on the outside edge, but the inside edge of the next tire is gone.

Katana also noted this behavior earlier in this thread. I don't think you will find anyone on air with a camber kit that does any good.

I ripped mine rite off within a week after I slammed my car. Also, to drive the car around that low isn't the greatest idea. My friend has cylinders on his TL and his driving height is around 2.5" he has a camber kit also set to that height. His tire wear is normal.

Yes, they are still on. The just miss the ground when layed out. They do scrape on speed bumps, but I generally lift before going over them. I don't drive anywhere where road hazards are a problem. I drive the kids to school, then come home and work all day, and go pick them up. Occasionally, I run some errands or go out on the weekend. Now, the underbody about mid car has some scrapes for sure I have not found that they need to be removed, they are hardly ever in the way.

If I put a camber kit on my car, it would only correct my camber by a few degrees. That won't help my tires as low as I ride, and I will constantly be rubbing the fender.

I will set it at ride height tomorrow, takes some picks and video so you can see what I mean.

Maybe your setup is just different. I've seen many setups, and most of them have their camber straight at ride height. Most of the setups I've seen, the ride height was around or close to a 2.5" drop. Just trying to suggest some things to help your tire wear. Them tires are expensive.

They sure are. The ties I am getting now are 99.00 a piece, no tax, and 35 for shipping next day from Shrevport. I am not in a huge hurry since I am riding the OG wheels and tires.

I would say I am sporting a 5-6" drop when I drive. As low as I can and still being able to turn the wheel (however can't cut it all the way).
