thats the hp the engine makes at the crank, but by the time the power is transferred though the tranny, and axle, wheels to the ground. thats all that matters. how mouch power u can get to the ground.
generally there is about a 15% loss of power though a manual tranny and about 20% through an auto. thats not always the case though.

Do you think there are different tolerances for each and every car produced?
I suspect that when a manufacturer sends a car to the magazine company for review and test drive, they would send a finished car that was made to tight specs so that it will perform as advertised.
I believe the ones sold to the mass market are made with looser specs and tolerances. So that even if the brochure says 200HP(crank), the actual output for any particular car may be alot lower.
It's like the advice not to buy a car made on Friday cause everyone is rushing to get off for the weekend and they just slap things together and you're gonna get a poorly put together car.

well I guess I should get myself a bicycle because the morning shift cant make good cars because they just woke up and are tired and all they are looking forward to doing is getting lunch, then in the afternoon they are full from lunch and have been on their feet allday so they are rushing to go home early?
I GOT AN IDEA, I will buy my next car from the factory that has little magical elves that only work at night!

Ok....ok, fine, don't believe me about cars that are made on Fridays. Perhaps that was back in the day then the assembly line were manned by workers. Average folks, who partied on Thursdays and hung over on Fridays. Or just plainly wanted to quit early and did things in rush....those things NEVER happened. We never showed up to work hung over or half-assed a job to get out early on Friday.
But now a days we don't have to worry anyways. The assembly line is comprised of robots and automated processes. They don't have human traits or faults.
