Dyno

I'm heading to the dyno with the UCONN car club on the 3rd on Nov. and I was wondering wether I should dyno in 3rd or 4th gear. I know you're supossed to dyno in the gear where the ratio is closest to 1:1 but I can't remember or find those numbers.

Thanks

I would say third. I have dyno'ed 2 cars in third.

It should not make that big of a difference honestly. The dyno corrects vs. speed etc..

When I dyno'ed my car I did pulls in 3rd and 4th and found basically the same results.

I searched my old dyno thread from years back, but I never stated what gear I was in. Sorry I couldn't help. But I'm sure you'll be fine in 3rd gear. 4th gear is just an overdrive.

not bad i made 137/139 w/ i/h/e/cam pulley BUT had 92 octane and 2 steps colder spark plugs which are big negatives in motor hp.

So a 2.3 with exhaust work would stand a chance against a 3.0 interesting

I don't think so. From my past experiences, no 2.X could touch my 3.0. In fact, in socal no 3.0 could touch my 3.0. That's including the 2xxwhp 3.0 that I ran and beat by 2 1/2 cars. This was with my I/H/E/P, and tuned vafc2.

But I have seen a 5speed 2.x keep up with a 3.0. But it really all comes down to if the 3.0 has the balls to power brake it. I never worried for the tranny, so I did it when necessary to come out the hole with a chance.
