Dual Battery Install

ya So i have been gone for almost a year, yet if you were a Sophomore at Purdue... you deffinitely would Understand why.

So I have finnaly realized that after getting my Air Ride Done, having ECU problems, and only enjoying the air ride for two days and then going to college, It is time to Pull the CL out of Storage and Finishing the Bad boy...

For those of you who didnt know I added 2 VIAIR 450C compressors, a 5 gal tank, all EAI switches, valves, cylinders... everything.

Just that would be fine to run off my Optima Yellow top, but I have a 750 watt mono Polk momo amp, and Polk momo 4 channel 850 watt to run all of my components and Momo 12s.... I bought a 2 farad Digital Stinger Capacitor and Alpine IVad 300 as well.

So here is my dilema. i bought a Dual battery isolator and another Optima Battery (this one red top). I need to hook this up correctly. Last time I attempted it I fucked up my alternator and ended up shorting my ECU (hence my car was at Honda for 4 weeks till they figured out what was wrong, only allowing me to enjoy the air ride for 3 days before I left)

So If anyone has experience hooking up a Dual Battery I would GREATLY apprechiate your help.

My AIM is LuckyAx2 or email me at ajsheare@purdue.edu

-thanks
Aj

(I finnaly got my interior back.... custom painted the same Titanium color as a Lexus IS300 and the exterior will be going in for an Electra blue paint job in may...)

You should be able to get away with running the yellow top, a 180amp alt, and a 5 farad cap. Basically, you need to have an alternator that can handle all that power consumption because majority of the time the draw is while the car is on. A dual battery setup would just be overkill, and unessary.

you need to have the yellow top in the back and the red top in the front. the redtop is for starting power and the yellow top is for sustained power (leaving the sterero and pumps on a for a bit without the car.) You also might want to build a tank circuit so the yellow top is unhooked from the main battery when the car is off so you dont accidently drain the main one and strand yourself. As for it blowing your ecu fuse, I would imagine its because you are going to need a more robust alternator to handle the two batteries.

Like LCARUCA said, you might drain your battery if you dont have 2 of the exact same battery's, if you got a yellow top get another yellow top. or use 2 red tops. I've read a couple of places on the net, where when installing a dual battery setup they want you to fuse both ends 18" from the Positive terminal with a 150 to 200 amp fuse. But seeing how starting up your car can sometimes use more then then i dont see how thats possible. I had dual batterys running in my car. you gotta run 1/0 or 4 Gauge to from battery to battery and i would upgrade the gauge of wire from the alternator if you put in a 180 amp alternator.

so would you say scrap the isolator? I already have both batteries and the isolator, I didnt blow my ecu fuse though, it was something really wierd where they had to rewire the ecu and like add onto it cuz the wires like opened up and were shorted out, i think it was brought on by the air ride or removing my VAFC

As for pics, there are a couple on my website... but just a few: I forget my cardomain site but if you look for like "Custom 3.0 CL" mine is under there.

the back end is all shaved and it hops and everything, kinda sick I might say, its amazingly fast on the cylinders, my set up is perfect for the car i must say, i wil take some more pics when i go home, hopefully the interior is all ready to go

Nice pics, the Integra looks sweet. Your bro did a nice job, must be nice to be sponsored. Anyway, good luck with the dual battery setup, and yes, you want to put the same batteries inline with each other, or you could drain the main battery.
