Droppin the CL
Like a bad habbit. I'm tired of it, ALREADY. I feel like shit about it, but whatever. I want something newer. I'm sick of having kid cars, so going back to a civic/teg is not at all an option, i want a grownup car. Dont get me wrong, the CL is classy as hell, but too old. So im going with a new TSX/TL. Probably end up goin with the TL tho, i like the 6cyl mated to the 6spd, and more cabin room.
This wont be happening for another 7-8 months, but i just seriously thought about it and looked at prices today.
basically, i'm living at home, working (for now) full time @ $15/h and am only paying for car/insurance, so i can afford it. I'm starting school again next semester, but will still be working at least 5 hours a day.
but i want the satisfaction of completing a car i started. so i think im still gonna go ahead and drop it on the omnis, WW lip, (maybe) circuit 8s/mugens, and HIDs.
guys that used to have modded CLs: how much more were you able to sell them than stock CLs if at all?

those are good wages for an 18yr old, but your still gonna have alot of trouble affording those cars.
your best bet that is of course your set on getting a new car within a year, is to stop spending money on your CL. just run it into the ground until you have a decent financial situation.

no point in modding it to sell it, most buyers wont add even half the price of what it took to buy/install the mods that are on it. youd prolly get the most money out of it by selling whatever is on it and returning it to stock and then selling it like that.

if you really want a ncie car, drive the cl every day and make it a nice beater and have a car you dont drive. you cant have anything you use daily and keep it as a "special" car. but seriously, think about this. how many 18 year olds do you know that pay for their own nice cars and dont live at home and do pay all their own bills. I am 23 and while I have a lot of toys and crap i have a lot of help from my fiance to have them all. and I make much better money than you do. just saying.

i'm currently taking classes for my AA at a community college, and plan on transferring to a UC in around 2 years. it just aggrivates me. where i'm from (the bay area) we have tons of kids my age driving around in M5s, s2ks, STis, EVOs, etc. I feel like i need to fit in :P
not just that, i just want something new, something i dont have to deal with the mistakes the of previous owner(s). and i wanna stay true to the honda name. but i hate the new civics. hah. still not sure what path i'm gonna go down, i'll probably stop putting money into the CL tho, but im leaning towards selling it when its paid off in 7-8 months.

Man you're 18 years old, you can't even drink legally for another 3 years. Save the "grownup" car for when you're actually grown up and can afford something like a new TL, an M5, an STi, or an S2k. I'm greatful that I have my 97 CL at the age of 19 and I love the fact that I can work on it myself, learn all about cars, and end up with something original when it's all said and done. I would rather put work into my own car and make something of it than work for the man every available hour to make payments on the latest hot car.

chips and smokes, lets go
selling your car becasue you want to fit in with rich kids who's parents bought them their cars is stupid. the CL is a pimp ride. if its in good working condition i say mod it and with some of that money and then bank the rest.

Stick with the CL until you get a little older...the TSX and the TL have very large payments...even if your credit is outstanding. My Benz payment is 610 bones a month and thats with a 6.49% APR.
Something to think about long and hard.

If I were you I'd think about priorities....it's clearly up to you in the end, but I would much rather be a man (pay my own bills, have my own place, etc) and drive a first gen cl than live with the 'rents and drive a spankin' new TL/TSX. Do what you like...just my thoughts.

hm. i've really thought about it. i guess i just get frustrated every time i look down on my odometer and it says 150,000. you really dont see that many modded CLs around. and it would be nice to be done doing payments all together once the CL is paid off, rather than start a whole new one on a different car. and i would be saving a LOT more money making the CL exactly how i want it to be than to buy a fresh start.
i think you guys saved me from making a big mistake. :P

Don't try to fit in, if your car is still strong then keep driving it, it's a UNIQUE car (except now that there's 5+ in UCI.... ). If you want to look nice, detail your car regularly and do some light improvements on aesthetics, stop modding the car if you're gonna sell it anyway...

For what its worth I think your CL is real clean. I'm pretty sure that the farther along you get with modding your car, the more appreciative you'll become of it, trust me.
Drop in an H22 w/boost then go ask your "M5s, s2ks, STis, EVOs, etc" buddies "what's really good?".
