Drop on my car
I bought my 97 2.2 cl a short time ago, but it wasn't from the original owner. It is lowered, more on the front than the back, and I'm not sure how much the owner dropped it with the new suspension. The person I bought it from doesn't know, so I'm not exactly sure how to find out what type of suspension they put into it, and how much they lowered it. I'm gonna take the wheels off in the next few days and investigate, but I don't know much about suspension. Can anyone give me some advice on how to figure this stuff out?

just take off a wheel and look at the name of the spring... take a look at the shocks too maybe those are also aftermarket... if you give us the spring and shock combo we will be able to tell you how much it is dropped....
also the rear ones too because they could be different springs since drop is uneven.

I didn't get the chance to take off my wheels yet, but I have a pretty good picture or two of the spring.

Can anyone identify these or tell me how much it's lowered?

It will be tough to tell from these pictures, but I have a couple of the car:
The front is definately lower than the back, but I haven't gotten a chance to take off the wheels and see what the rear springs look like. The pictures of the springs I posted are from the front left side of the car.

How can I tell if the shocks are stock or aftermarket? If they are stock, is it worth it to get new ones and how will installing some new ones effect my ride and handling?

Okay, I cleaned the springs off to look for a brand name, but couldn't find one. I'm still unsure if I'm riding on stock shocks, but maybe some of you can help me figure that out from theses pics. My car isn't handling the bumps on the road too well right now, but I'm not sure if that means I'm gonna have to replace the shocks or not.
The little white label on the shock has this written on it:
SY8-A020-M2 1x

yeah you might need new shocks. might as well get after market shocks. you get a nice ride.
sportlines are red. those might be some random ebay springs, most big name companies have the name on the side that don't rub off so easily.

If I get some new aftermarket shocks installed, will it be necessary to install a camber kit too? How much money will a camber kit save me on tires over a few years?

Well the car was stolen from the original owner, driven to where I live now. The insurance company payed the owner for the car, then the police found it after that with no wheels on it. I bought the car off of an autobody shop that bought it from an auction, then I ordered some wheels to put on it for now. With all of the personal security issues these days, there is no way for me to get ahold of the original owner. It's kind of an awkward situation not knowing what exactly the owner did with the suspension.

Well I finally figured out that they are H&R Race Springs. Can anyone confirm from the pictures that those are the stock shocks I'm riding on? I know it's highly recommended to get new performance shocks with the H&R race, so if I can confirm that those ones are stock then I'll have to get some new ones. The H&R's have 5/99 written on them, so I'm assuming that they've been installed for quite a while, which seems weird that someone would put in race springs with stock shocks for a long period of time. If the shocks are stock, how can I tell if they are blown?
