Well my 98 Acura 3.0 CL Premium was originally my dad's, so when I turned 16 he got a 3.2CL and gave me his. Now this problem didn't bug him too much but it bugs me! the plastic part of the steering wheel (center) around the edges peels off revealing the black part. it looks so bad! My Dad did have the dealer look at it when it was in for another reason. They didn't offer a solution and my Dad stopped caring. Now my Mom has a 3.2TL and it too is peeling. Both the TL and my CL have parchment leather and the new CL has ebony. Since my Dad's isn't peeling (yet) I assume this is a common problem with Acura's in parchment. Is this true?

Well your new CL has black leather (so does my dad's) and it doesn't peel. Did your old CL have black or beige?

P.S. Just wondering, but did u steal the legend or was it stolen from u?

I have a '97 with "Quartz" (or gray) interior. My steering wheel has been "peeling"/flaking since I've owned it.

EDIT: I made the mistake of applying Lexol to the steering wheel, itself (not the center), and there's a large portion of the wheel that's now black!

And do any of use the Club? That was our first idea, but then we realized the club doesn't rub where it peels.

I just bought a 97 CL 3.0 with the grey interior. The steering wheel was peeled just like you guys are talking about. I bought a faux leather steering wheel cover the next day. It matches with the interior perfectly. I suggest you guys do the same if it bothers you as much as it bothered me.

hmm... i don't think my wheel's center is peeling like some of y'all have mentioned but i have noticed a handful of very tiny (almost microscopic) dots in that area of the steering wheel. i always thought it was from me whenever i jot notes down in the car or write out a check in the car... hmm... i'll have to keep an eye out to see if it there's more.

Hey, i thought i was the only one that was having this problem. Guess i was wrong. Mine is peeling at the 12:00 part of the wheel too. I tried looking for wheel covers, but can't find one that looks nice. And for a new one it's $180. Which i think is too much

YEa, 180 is too much. If i decide on replacing it, i think the best place would be the junk yard.

acid, huh? you sure it's acid? i'm a girl and my steering wheel rim is as nice as the day it was when the car was new. maybe ya'll should practice periodic cleaning of the rim w/ a "wet ones" wipe or something. not trying to sound bitchy, but just a suggestion.

I'm an armor junky and neither of my steering wheels(CL or Civic) has started to peel yet. But I do notice a slight discoloration of the center piece compared to the grips.

we are talking about the center piece, not the leather wrapped wheel.

yeah, hondas have a thing with their center airbag covers fading over a few years or so. we've had quite a few hondas in our family and i've noticed that our '92 prelude si had it really bad. come to think of it, i've even noticed this on a few of my friends' civics and integras. i don't know if this is true, but i heard that the more armor all you use on these parts the more they fade... that's what our service guy told us. so, needless to say, i've never really went overboard with my use of that kind of stuff on my interior platics/vinyls.

I've got the same problem with peeling at the 12 o'clock position. How much would it be to replace the wheel? Has anybody come up with a solution for this problem? My car has 90k on the clock and I would pay $200 for a new wheel if it'll last that long.

(the leather Part of the wheel, aka circle part) The magic of the Acura Total Luxury Care Warranty. I took it in I said it was cracking at the top, no questions asked a new one got put on. My dad had to dick around with the BMW dealer for 6 months before they would warranty his. I go to a Precision Award acura dealer and it seems they will do ANYTHING for you if you promise to rate them execelent on their customer evaluation form. Monday my car is going in to get the hood repainted, yet another thing that they are taking care of under warranty. Everytime I also get a brand new TL as a loaner. I give them what they want and they give me what I want, good exchange if you ask me. A+++++++++ for service.

23 How many miles do you have. Ive got the same probalems the circle part of the steering wheel is starting to crack, Ive got paint chipping on the hood from sand and rocks. Im afraid that I dont qualify for anything even though the car was only purchase 3 years ago( I have 111,000+ miles) So I guess Im almost double outta warranty. I just wanted to check what you had

Right now I have 44000 the replaced the steering wheel around 36000 the hood is being repained for a blemish about the size of a dime that looks like it might be under the clear coat but no one can tell and it wont buff out, So the whole thing gets re done, no more rock chips for me.

For you guys with the peeling. You guys could go on Ebay and search for Acura steering wheel. It will come up with MDX and TL steering wheels for like $10. Bid on them cause they fit, unless you have a 97. Because the 97 have the horn on it. I have a 99 and the MDX steering wheel fits with no problem.
