Do the factory breaks suck or what?
I dont know if this is just me or not, but I think the stock breaks on my 98 suck. My dads new MDX stops on a dime. Anyone else feel this way. Has anyone installed any upgraded breaks?

Slotted rotors, etc don't make you stop much if any "better" or shorter. But they don't fade as easily, which is really only present when you are on the brakes a lot for a short period of times.

Or, my many light to light races with N2O.
I'd have to say that this brake set up works better than OEM when braking hard after spraying.

i didnt realise the front rotors are bigger than the backs....i want new breaks but i dont have the $$ for them right now...next time the dealer says i need new breaks, im gonna check prices and maybe get some aftermarket ones...prob just crossdrilled...i donno about slotted, heard that slotted ones wear down the pads faster...

The purpose of cross-drilled, slotted, or dimple rotors is to dissipate heat by degassing the hot gasses created under driving condition.
Cross-drilled: Holes are drilled through the rotor to dissipate heat. Cross drilling is very effective for heat dissipation. It will prolong the life to the pads, rotors and improve stopping power. It also shed off water under-wet driving condition.
Slotted: A line cut on the surface of the rotors to dissipate heat and increase bite. Slotted rotors will bring up the operation temperature of the braking components much faster over cross-drilled, yet it dissipates the heat at the same time. The added bite will reduce the stopping distance. Slotted rotor does not scarify the structural integrity of the rotor.
Dimple: In a way it is very much like slotted rotors with the cross-drilled looks. Work the same way as slotted rotors, but looks exactly like cross-drilled and less pad wear. Dimple rotor does not scarify the structural integrity of the rotor.
Im sure larger rotors will provide more surface area also to provide better stopping.

from what i've read, not much still, they'll have less fade, but by simply going to larger rotors up front or even w/ larger calipers it still doesn't do much, you'd see more improvement if you do the rear also.

i dont think they SUCK, i mean, i do still stop when i hit them...but they could be better. MY mom has a beetle, i have driven her car before and that thing stops on a dime....it takes me a while to get used to it. i LOVE her brakes.
