do 1st gen headlights suck?

My girlfriends 98 CL headlights are horrible. I originally thought I was just spoiled cause I have a type S, but then I drove other non-HID cars and you can definelty tell that hers are weak.

Is this an issue with all 98 CL's?
Any suggestions on brighter bulbs (no hyperwhites).

I'm afraid to ask, but, how much does the HID conversion cost?

There are no higher wattage bulbs that will fit?

True, they suck, so get HID's

Kits start at $375 and go up. Check on Ebay for the better prices. Some just went for $299 right before X-mas.

Higher wattage bulbs do not technically blow any faster than stock ones, it's the CHEAP ones that do. Remember, you get what you pay for.

They are not bright at all, upgraded bulbs helps a bit if you dont want to spend the 400 bucks on HID.

put 9005 bulbs in the low beams. $5 for each bulb cant go wrong. not to mention good light output. the only time i was dissatisfied with my lighting was when they were stock stanley 9006 bulbs. piaa platinums were good, but they were $50, but 9005 oem stanley bulbs in my low beams were the best and cheapest, but now i have a true HID / projector custom setup and it is by far superior even to a new cl or tl. why acura still isnt using a projector is beyond me. ill have some pics up later today. i paid $250 for oem audi (hella) ballasts and osram bulbs, then $150 for hid projectors out of a bmw

do 9005 bulbs burn out any faster then the 9006? whats the downside to 9005's? Do they melt anything? Do they fit without any modifications?

I was planning to test that out but never got the chance to. I was think it might burn out quicker or melt the harness. Have anybody try doing this yet?

hey i have BETTER idea!! go to ebay and look for eaglite bulbs.
There is a guy..(midnight Moose) and he sells hi/low packages for like $26. so you get the 9005 and 9006 bulbs. I have had a few sets since i got my car and i have to say they are the closest thing to hid's i have found yet. and i have tried the whole 9005 in the low beam socket thing...and the eaglites are just as bright. plus when you put the 9005's in the low beam socket..you have to cut away some of the plastic on the bulb so it will fit, they make it so you can't use the wrong size bulb. I did it and i melted a plug and had to get a new wiring harness. plus the bulb didn't fit in right and my headlights would fog up all the time. i hope this puts some LIGHT on the situation. (god that was a bad pun...)

oh, and don't accidently buy the 6006XS
they are for gm cars

i'm not implying that they go out quick... it all depends on how you handle them. I have had the car for almost 2 years now and i have had three sets total. i like em, plus, they are disgustingly cheap in price.

I first put in Sylvania cool blue and they were better than stock but not by much. I tried Pro 1 top speed HID Blue in the high beams and they seam much brighter to me. I am going to replace the Sylvanias I have in the low beams with the Pro 1s. I also put Pro 1s in the corner lights all (highs and corners)for $30 installed!

nah u dont have to mess up ur harness at all .. the 9005s have 2 little ridges in the slot ( dont know how to describe it ) the place where the bulb and the harness connect .. but the 9006 only has one ... so u have to file down the 2 ridges so that they can fit .. its real simple if u see the bulbs .. very well worth it if ur thinkin of a lighting upgrade .... i'll post pics later if ya want

yeah, i'd like to see a pic on how it turned out. I'm almost sold on this, just concerned about blinding other cars.

I mean would it mess up the harness wires if you use it for a long time not rewiring. Like will it burn the wires or melt it?

nice. I think I'll give it a try. 2 testimonials for running 9005 as low beams is good enough for me. I"ll let ya know how it turns, it may be a week or so. possibly longer if autozone wants too much and i have to order.

I just replaced my low beams with some regular sylvania 9006, couldnt remember wether it was 9005 or 9006, but they are SO much better than the ones that came with my car, one of them was burnt out and barely worked. Also did any of you have a hard time getting the bulb on the side that the air box is on out? i couldnt get around that stupid tube thats next to the battery, it took forever.

i've had the same PIAA' on my car for almost a year. the damn thigs havent burned out yet.

not that i'm complaining, but im getting HID's soon and i want to be able to justify my purchase.

to hell with that idea......

dajuice27 was right. you get what you pay for when it comes to lighting. just some HID's for the car and you will be much happier
