the canon elph s300 is pretty good and not too expensive. Extremely small too.

I have an older Olympus which works pretty well. Olympus has good quality. There are several threads in Ramblings about cameras. Here's the latest thread.

I use a FUJI FinePix 1400Z. Bought it 2 years ago for $350. You could get it off ebay for about $200 (or less) these days. I have taken TONS of pictures, and can honestly say it's a very reliable camera with very good resolution. (at high resolution the .JPG pictures end up taking about 400Ks or so, so it's pretty decent).

I've used the following:
Canon A50 - Overall great camera but zoom is little weak only 2x Optical
Canon S100 - Small.... but that's about it. Picture quality sucks
Canon Pro70 - That BEST that I've used but zoom is not enough and no thread to attach filters but excellent picture quality.
Yashica 2100G - Looks like a DV Excellent day time picture but poor in low-light condition (and weak flash light)
Fuji 4900 - 2nd BEST that picture not as nice as the Pro70 but have a 6x Optical zoom and can be threaded to use any 35mm camera filter.

I would recommend either the Canon Pro70 (you can probably find one at a low price now as its a 2+ years old model already) or the Fuji 4900 which Fuji discontinued it late last year and the price as dropped too.

For reviews of other camera, here are two sites that I trusted the most:
http://www.dpreview.com/
http://www.imaging-resource.com/

Hope this helps
