Difference between CAI and short ram
Difference between CAI and short ram
What are the major differences between a CAI and a short ram intake? I want a CAI, but I am concerned about water/snow getting into the engine. We get a lot of bad weather in Michigan. What do you guys think?

Well, the main difference is that the CAI pulls cooler air in because it is hung lower on the car...while the short ram is higher so that the air going through the filter is warmer because of the engine. In saying that, you technically should get more power out of a CAI because of the cooler air going into your car.
You should try getting a two piece intake, that way, during snow/rain seasons, you can take off the CAI extension part and make it a short ram.
Or you can just get the bypass..either way, you should be safe. Good luck!

The 2 piece intake is a good idea, especially if you're in an area that gets all 4 seasons!!------------------

TW112,
Did you have to do anything or mod it in anyway to fit?

Nah not really...the only thing that doesn't work is the brace up top and at the bottom....but it isn't just hanging there
On the bottom, I found a hole for it to go through, and then I reached underneath and bolted a screw down. I will snap some pics if you would like...

Yeah, that would be cool. I want to install one in my car. It would be helpful to see it. Thanks.

Make sure you look/fit the accord intakes on before buying. I personally found that some accord intakes don't angle far enuf and sit on top of the battery. My own intake is from a 98 prelude and had to be custom bolted on. The thing is, my filter still rubs harshly against the battery wall. If you are concerned about water getting into your manifold, I suggest an AEM bypass valve but make sure it is a newer model. The old ones had problems staying together. Sorry for the long post but was just looking out for a fellow CL board member, ;-)

I have no pic because I returned the intake pipe for a refund. Basically, the intake pipe was shaped incorrectly (too short) and stopped to where the filter was to be in the position of the battery. They said they would have to move the battery to the trunk but I opted for a different company (racing soul) and they hooked me up with a prelude intake that fit nicely.
