i just hit 90k yesterday. when does the timing belt officially need to be changed? now or 100k? i dont have any problems at all with the engine so far, but what are warning signs that the timing belt needs to be changed? i have a friend thats a mechanic also, its such a lifesaver. he installed my springs and shocks last summer and all he wanted was some micky d's and a few bucks. cant beat that. i figure for changing the timing belt, applebee's should be sufficient pay. also, i think my alternator is going. i got a brand new battery a month ago and as of yesterday, my radio and my clock reset WHILE i'm driving. any ideas?

is it at different mileage between the 2.x and the 3.0? i have a 2.2, but i think the manual says to change it at 100k.

the scheduled change I think is 105k. but there are people(^^) who have tons more and haven't done yet. I say if you drive hard, you should do it at the scheduled time. If not, take shineys advice.

pebecl97, sounds like the alternator. Just spend a half an hour at a Autozone or Discount, they'll tell you.

I did my timing belt about two weeks ago and $220 is a fuckin' STEAL!!! It was a bitch! But the point is that my timing belt looked so good I could've gone for another 30K miles or so. No defects, flaws or anything. With a little belt dressing it could be sold as NEW. The Water pump as well was fully functional almost like it was brand new, the only thing that sets it apart is grime on the housing.

CLPower, good luck on the install, if you need any help (I'm sure you wouldn't) let me know, be glad to help. Let me know, I can give you a write-up and you could prolly get the pictures then it will be a complete how to guide.

Same goes to anyone else out there who wants to attempt the job, let me know I'd be glad to help.

Peace,
James

bro mine too!!! the guy john was like u wanna see the old belt he shows me a barely worn belt. but he claims it was prolly never done. i am 2nd owner and yes i shoulda tracked down 1st owner b4 investing but i figure better safe. oh well the good news is she's running nice and smooth and that annoying fuckin squeak from the other belts is finally gone since i changed both those too!! now all i gotta do is tune it up saturday and fix the pain in my ass rattle/cricket sounding noise coming from the map light by rear view when bumpin and i'm straight...any suggestions on this btw?

by the way to answer ppl's questions about when to do it....i say don't fuck around and risk damaging valves/pistons/whatever....a timing belt job is preventitive maintainence. if ur car has over 100k and u think it was never done, do it....i'm at 103 myself...

there are none. when I had my integ, I was just driving along one day and the car just started stuttering and the shut off. I kept trying to start it and got nothing but a really high pitched version of the engine turning over. luckily I was about a 1/2mi. from my house. pushed her home( actually to my old mechanic at the corner). he told me it was the timing belt. we changed it just to try and
she started and ran like a dream. I was lucky not bend valves, lifters, etc.
that's why I'll be a honda man til I die.
