Detailed My Car . . . Details of the HARSH Winter

I detailed my car today (we're FINALLY having nice weather here). This is the first time since November.

Most of you know that I demolished the front end of my car on 9/11/02. The whole front end was repainted.

WELL, there are more paint chips on the front of my car than the 5 1/2 year's worth on the original paint!

I have 3 tires with bubbles!

I have 2 bent rims

and . . .

Every rim is curbed!!!!

Now I know why you should put the OEM rims on for winter!

$1200.00 down the drain! :thumbsdn:

BTW: a stone hit my windshield the other day, and I have an ever GROWING crack in it!

I hate this FUCKING winter!

Damn Rick, I ain't complaining anymore about my so called shitty winter.

I did do the strip and Zaino thing today after work. I clay bar'd the car then dropped 2 nice thick coats of Z5 for my base, tomorrow I start the Z2 for shine! I'll clean and treat my leather this week as well, so she will be almost as clean as your car!

How does claying a car work, is it worth all the agrivation? My friend who works at a dealership tells me to do it, but i have never heard of anyone but him do it. He said it cleans the base awesome, and gives wax a better shine.
Dust, thats some shitty news man, no one deserves that. To make you feel a little better, i washed mine today and notices my fucken WW lip was falling off, well, the tape wasnt sticking anymore. So i got to take it off and retape the back, and the paint cracks and flakes off on me! Now i need to repaint and retape. What a POS, but i realized i hate the look of my car withot the lip now, it looks like a bird beak.

I forgot to mention that my passenger side fog light is cracked!

Luckily, I had an extra one that I picked up for $20.00 some time ago. I just installed it as well as put my CAI back on.

Rick, you live near D.C. right? I'm in Pittsburgh, and the weather suck, everytime there's a nice day, i wash my car, and then... the day after it snows or rains. It's almost embarrasing driving a white car, when all you see is brown. My sunroof still is broken, I still need to get my rotors fixed, there's a huge paint chip, that was "fixed", by the previous owner(they used some other white paint), and my wheels are all rusty. It hasn't been my month. The worst part is I just made the first payment! and all of this is happening!

You might wanna check with Kumho for warranty work. My buddy had 3 out of 4 712's bubble up on him, and they were a stock size (205/55 16) and it was the summertime!!!

Car looks sharp though.

I use OZ Rally Raid gravel stage rims for winter. I've banged into all sorts of things with them, but no problems with keeping the rims straight and the tires in good shape.

That's too bad about all that stuff Rick.

I was worried about you guys in the snowy states driving around with your nice rims on.

clstyle: I'm considering the front lip. Actually, I'm considering a number of exterior upgrades at the moment! I did the detailing myself.

ricardo: Sorry to hear about the accident!

My situation is a little different as I have a Teflon coating on my paint (no waxing needed). I do have a "renewer" which is like a polish that I apply when needed (which came in a kit with the dealer-applied Teflon coating at the time of original purchase). My car's paint looks the same as the day I bought it (except for paint ships and scratches).

Normally, I would recommed washing the car with dish washing detergent (to get off the old wax), then using a clay bar to get the imbedded dirt off. Then use a good cleaner wax, followed by a good polish.

I use Lexol leather cleaner and conditioner on the seats and door panels. I use Vinylex (made by Lexol) on all of the interior plastic pieces.

When I say "detail" it includes cleaning the engine bay, all of the door seals, and all places that can be reached with the human hand. I used a carpet cleaner for the carpets. I used free glass cleaner that I got from Honda (came in a kit with leather conditioner and plastic cleaner/polish--similar to Armor All).

I clean the tires with Bleach White, then dress them with Wet 'N' Black. I clean the rims, then polish them with the "renewer" polish that I use on the Teflon.

It takes about 6-8 hours if I've not dont done it for a while (like over the winter). During the summer, I detail it once a month, and it only takes about 4 hours.

The Teflon was like $350.00 (which the dealer threw in for free in order for me to buy the car--along with other perks). The dealer applies a new coast every 6 months for 3 years!

The benefits are best described as this: I wash the car, it dries, and that's it. My car looks like I've spent hours waxing/polishing it, with only a wash!

It also helps protect the clear coat and keeps the paint looking newer, longer.
