Is the dealership wrong?
Is the dealership wrong?
I just recently bought a 98 CL and have just started doing my own thing to it... The other day I went into my local Acura Dealership in hopes of replacing my 98' CL grille with a 97' grille only to find out, to my dismay that APPARENTLY the two grilles are not interchangeable. The guy told me I'd have to buy a whole new hood from a 97 in order to get the new grille, which sounds ridiculous to me...
Anyway, needless to say, I think the dealership guy was wrong and the two grilles can be swapped... Can anyone out there answer this for me definatively? I want a 97 grille!!

I dont think they are any different. They are gonna tell you that to get you to buy a new hood...I know a bunch of people on this forum have done it. And besides, if they were different they they would have to make two different molds for the carbon fiber hoods that were on group buy.

that guy is either an idiot or just doesn’t know. Either way it will fit. Also if you do get a new grill sell the other one to Palayah8ta he is hurting for a new one, since he got owned by a cone…lol

My suggestion just tell them to order it. Take it home and put it on.. not hard to do. If it doesnt fit im Sure u can find ways to make it fit.
Why bother telling him you want a 97 for your 98.... You just flat confused his dumb part-sellin' ass. Just ask the guy for a 97 grille... He will order it, you'll pick it up and put it on... then go back and show him that it fits so he'll know WTF he's talking about next time.

when i frist read what you said i was ready to just slap you. :troutslap but yeah just buy the 97 you will be arite!
Alright, so I called the dealer back today seeing as the concensus seemed to be that a 97 grille WOULD in fact fit on my 98... Turned out it was the same guy who answers the phone that advised me yesterday that I needed to buy a whole new hood to get a 97 grille. TODAY he tells me upon learning I was going to buy the grille anyway, that the 97 grille has been discontinued and I'd have to order a grille for a 2004 Toyota Camry instead... WTF???
haha... I lie... My new grille should be here shortly... Only one problem. It comes in 4 parts...
1. The chrome lip around the whole grille - $112 Canadian
2. The chrome acura badge - ??$
3. The black plastic part (this is the part thats most noticeably different on the 97 - one horizontal line as opposed to all the ugly vertical lines) - $185 Canadian (ouch)
4. And then the chrome part that covers the horizontal arm thing. - $46 Canadian
Seeing as I don't particularly want to spend another $112 on a chrome ring that I already have I didn't order that part and am hoping that I'll be able to use the one from my existing grille...
Soooo Palayah8ta, I'm willing to part with the old grille when my new one comes but it may be lacking the ring...
