Dealer offered me $3000 on my car as a trade in?!?! WTF??
I was trying to work some numbers for an 03 Accord 6 SPD w/ NAV and the dealership offered me 3K on my 3.0 CL with 87K miles. True Market Value has my car as is, for about 8000K for trade in value. Needless to say I was pissed and didnt get the Accord. He said that because I lowered it, they would need to absorb too much cost to put it back up to stock height, stock wheels, and other features....I WAS PISSSSED!!
I just needed to vent...I feel better now!

As if they'd raise it and put stock wheels on it! Dealers LIE!!!! I got RAPED so bad when I traded in my '95 Mustang convertible to buy my CL back in 97. Raped so bad my ass bled! I don't think the CL is going to get $8K - I hope I'm wrong - but $3K???? Yea right! Check your paper and watch Ebay to see how much the same car is going for and sell it yourself. Here's another tip. Go to your bank or better yet a Credit Union and get pre-approved for a loan for the car. Then walk into that asslick dealership and buy your car on YOUR terms not there's - oh and buy from a different salesmen and as you're driving out of the dealer in your new car honk your horn at the salesman that quoted you the $3K for trade-in, roll down your window, and tell him he's a damn fool for treating you like a sucker! Oh and spit on him too!

I'll tell you what to do, go buy a Nissan and then ask him about his sales quota. If he didn't make it, then you tell him "and now you know why you didn''t" as you pull away from his dumb ass!
I wish they would try to rape me like that, I'd whip it out and piss on his leg.

Part of the reason to work a trade-in along with the purchase of a car is that you get a tax break on it.
At any rate, check out Carmax for selling your used car. You can go there and at least get a quote that's good for 7 days for free and you're under no pressure to sell or not.
I worked with 'em and got 2.5x what the dealer was offering for my car, which was a good break for me since I was beyond sick of the car. Then I got a used manual transmission car from them, used it for 2 months to learn to drive the stick, and sold it back for just under 90% of what I paid. Your milage may vary, though. :P

do a private sale.. you will always get more then trade in value. People will be more likely to buy from you.. cause you would be cheaper then the dealer price but higher then trade in value. They rape you when your trade your car in .. remember.. one mans trash is another mans treasure.. you could not only make someones day by selling them your car cheaper then the dealer but also get more money then you would on a trade in of anything. -Jai
