I think someone already said this but....The speaker is only as good as the setup used. You could have the pimpest sub and run a crappy amp, use crappy wires, and a crappy box and the sub is going to sound like crap. When I worked for Circuit City's Roadshop, we set up an Alpine Type R 10 and it hit like dual 12's. It was displacing so much air you could see the rear window on the celica flexing. I thought it was going to pop.

2 10s can sound really good too. if someone likes tight bass his bostons are what you want. for fat bass what you got is tops on my list.

 

In all honesty with equall power to both the JL and the 2 bostons the bostons would beat out the JL. They cover more surface area than a single 13" woofer and move alot more air(spl). However if he's splitting the power between the two(which he probably is) yours may sound better. I have two PPI flat piston subs with 800 watts to each, My friend has four ten inch kicker solobaricks with 500 watts each. His sounds much better. But theres allot of things that could throw off the balance like the type of box they are in, power, crossover freq. etc. Basically your comparing apples to oranges.
