Cylinder misfires all around - help needed
Car: 99 2.3L 5-speed with 121k
A week ago, while driving on the highway the check engine light starts flashing. I goto autozone and get the following codes:
P0300
P0301
P0303
P1399
Clearly there is massive misfiring going on with the engine. I replaced the plugs and wires a month ago and car was running fine until this happened.
Other symptoms/observations:
- The day the check engine started flashing it was extremely cold, like maybe 20 farenheit.
- When I come to a stop and push the clutch down, the car will stall everytime unless I give the car some gas.
- When I stall out and crank the car to restart, the crank takes awhile to restart.
- Cars idle is choppy and inconsistent.
- Car cannot accelerate smoothly. The car shakes, stumbles and shudders extremely hard when I attempt to accelerate.
Soooo, any suggestions or recommendations on where should I start to try and figure out this headache?

While you're replacing your dist, put your wires in the right order, they may be out of order, otherwise, could be your timing is off

if after cap and rotor, car still runs bad, i will put in the old wires and try that. if it still runs crappy after all that, i will go ahead and scrap this damn engine and get an H22. this engine is giving me way too many headaches and i'm unwilling to pour anymore $$ into it. i already need new rings which will run $1500 for parts/labor. are there any CLs near metro NY that have an H22? i'd love to see one in person before i take the plunge. its going to cost me 5k for the swap out the door. that includes complete engine, tranny, labor, and maintenance.

If you put new wires in, chances are you put the wires in the wrong order

97blackackcl: its definitely not the wire order since i was driving it on the highway fine when the CEL came on. instead it could be that the wires are faulty or something.
supraman, if you have some free time would it be ok if i took a look at your h22? i wouldn't mind driving out to wherever you are. i really have to be sure its worth it before i spend 5 gs on a swap.

Check to make sure all your wires are tight and snapped onto the plugs all the way

so if i can sell the head for like $100 to them, then it will be easier to sell the rest of the swap on honda-tech.com because no one wants the complete swap, only the block and tranny.

i think the breakdown goes like this (please let me know if this doesn't sound right):
2.5 for complete engine/tranny
1.5 for labor
1 for miscellaneous (timing belt, clutch, hoses etc)
2.5 for complete engine/tranny

wow if i could get everything done right for 3g, i would do it IMMEDIATELY. i just don't know a place i can trust to do it right for that price. where'd u get yours done?

Well, got the cap and rotor replaced today and car is still having the same problem. I'm starting to run out of ideas here, only thing left is fuel filter or fuel pump. Can lack of fuel delivery cause the cylinders to misfire?

Well, I've ran out of ideas. I've replaced wires, plugs, rotor, cap, coil, fuel filter and the car is still misfiring. Does anyone know what code P1399 is? It wasn't on the list of codes in the FAQ. I'm hoping it is the reason behind it all.
