CV Shafts which are better

Notice on my 97 Cl that it is starting to shake on acceleration. So I have decided to replace the shafts here in a few days so who makes a decent shaft? Napa, Autozone, O' Reillys or just get Acura's shafts? Thanks

i dont think your cv axle would cause shaking, maybe clicking.... I bought autozone, but they gave me a bad remanufactured one, made clicking noises. Then i had to take it back and get another. 2nd one worked fine.

Acura/Honda Remanufactured CV shafts are the best. Tried many, many different options and none were as good nor lasted as long. I got 6K out of the Auto Zone crap shafts that started vibrating and making noise. I then put Honda remanufactured shafts on my accord and got 100K+ out of them. It's worth the lil extra $$ to only have to do it once.

Long story, but I may have earlier posted my experience w/ a visit to a CV Axle Repair Shop in Houston if you want the gory details. Suffice to say, that their idea of repair is new boots and grease, nothing else. I think this is what you get from all the chain auto parts places.

I've bought used shafts on two occasions and been reasonably happy w/ performance so far.

Best thing is to watch your boots. clean and replace boots when rupture first occurs. Easier said than done, but the shaft will run for some time before damage occurs. If you check your shafts when you change oil, you should catch a ruptured boot. Grease slings out and makes spotting a busted boot very easy.

Refurbishing a busted CV joint boot is a nasty, greasy job, but at least you have a decent CV axle when you're finished.

good luck

ya, this is a good point. If you catch a torn boot early enough, just fix it and save $$$. But, if you have driven the car to the point the shaft is making a clicking or grinding noise, the damage has already been done by road debris/water/salt/dirt contaminating the joint, and the shaft will need rebuilt or replaced.

I believe you can buy just the outboard joint from Honda, but they are really expensive compared to just buying a while remanufactured assembly.
