comptech headers vs. obx in 3.0
which headers are considered better for the 3.0??? i know the comptech headers are more expensive but is that due to quality or some corporate executives tryin to rip us off? also, are there any other headers out there for our cars??

remember you get what you pay for, comptech is quality and you can see it in the price, however, obx i have heard of seals on the headers coming apart but overall the obx are fine but they are not smog legal so you need smog hookup when you get her smogged or you have to take them off, the comptech ones are already smog legal

If you aren't into the do it yourself thing, then save your money and get the comptechs. They are a direct bolt on w/ no modifications.
If you are willing to do the mods, which seem minor, then get the obx's. I can't see how either one would be better as far as performance is concerned.

I don't know of too many people who have installed the OBX V6 headers on their 1st gen to make a comparison. I have them in my CL and I helped put dajuice27's in. We had to cancell the install on Vegeta1's headers today because dajuice27 had to work. Not sure who else has them.
I definitely got what I paid for!!!!!!!! :P
$350.00 for comperable HP and $600-$800 in my pocket!
OBX copied Comptech's design. There can't be much difference in HP and Torque. However, I'm sure the comptechs are better quality. Unless you plan on keeping your CL forever, you probably won't have the headers on long enough to experience any quality degradation in the OBX's.

so the OBX's would be better to buy because i am going to place the order by the end of the week for either one because right now i have enough money for either one, i may just buy the comptechs but i am still not sure!

OBX, I had comptechs a few years back but sold them for money, and they were awesome, but now that the OBX's are out my next purchase will be w/ them.

comptech won't get discounts for shit, i've tried that angle a bunch of times. All my friends out here own shops and they can't get comptech to budge a bit. It's like 50$ or so.

oh but i'd still say its worth a shot, or maybe one of there distributors would give a discount because honestly the price for their headers is a little steep and from what i hear there products are a little "shady"!

A few weeks back there was some store on EBAY that was having a sale on their comptech headers, they were going for 800-something and they had the models for our CL's. If you could find them for that price, I'd go with Comtech carb-legal quality. But if the best price you can find is near the 1200 mark, I'd go with the OBX ones.

Yes but the piping is going to need a little bending

Massive is where I got my Headers from.
I like the increased power I got from my $325 headers over the $1200 Comptechs. And with the extra money I saved, I bought more mods and ate like a king and not a college student.

I have the OBX headers. I've had them installed since October, 2002. No problems/No noise (not sure what you mean by "noise").
Ash: Definitely worth the $300!!!!! Just get MIDAS to bend the rear downpipe 1" in towards the flex pipe, and they'll fit with no problem.
However, when we installed Vegeta1's headers, we ran into a problem with the factory drilled holes on the headers (where they bolt to the block). We had to drill several of the holes a bit larger so that they would fit on the block studs correctly. Just took a little bit more time to get them in, but everything worked. Didn't have this problem with mine or Dajuice27's headers.
Here are some pics of the install we did on Dajuice27's CL: http://public.fotki.com/dustbuster4/obx_header_install/

by noises i meant the rattling that some people get...
another question...when bending these headers doesnt that like hinder its full capability, like if you start messing with the design what makes thembetter than stock?

No rattling.
The bend is minor.
What makes them better than stock?
You'll save several pounds of weight and gain about 12-15 HP to the wheels over the stock exhaust manifold.
If you're that concerned, just spend the $1K and get the Comptechs.

I ordered the Stone headers from Nashua_Night_Hawk in the Group buy that they had in the car talk forum. Now Im just waiting for them to get here. I believe I will be the only 1st gen to have them, so hopefully they work out ok.

Good luck with the headers! If you need help with the install, let me know.

I think there is another company that is making headers too...supposedly better than comptech for the 98 accord...don't know if it fits...this guy is on the clubrsx forum and seems to be a really reputible guy...i think he owns prototyperacing.com....headers seemed to out-do comtechs...

I don't know...just go to the website and read about it...it says that they ran a dyno with the comptechs and then ran it with theres as a comparo...the results where better for on the other...I was just just showing another alternative...as for quality...i would think this would be very good since this website is for engine swaps for high priced imports...namely lotus....and he seems like a repudable and respectable guy from the clubrsx forum...
