Complete Answers for 2.3 98 CL auto to manual swap?
I have been searching all the communities for answers regarding an auto to manual transmission swap on a 1998 Acura CL 2.3. I have read you can do a 97 accord 5mt, and you can't... I've read an h22 and a "you can't". But there isn't a write up of "the most inexpensive and reliable resort to your Autotragic transmission problems via Acura". If anyone knows where a DIY link or a complete write up would be, I bought this car, the transmission blew on the way home from buying it. I just need to get it driving with a MT, but need to know ECU swap, everything. I know how to pull the old, put in the new, add the clutch and flywheel.. i know I need pedals and a clutch master, I am unaware of ECU situations... I have climate control, if I change the ecu will it no longer work??? I'm just a tad confused on how to keep my options and what is the most reliable trans to put in there... I don't race, I don't ride fast.. just need reliability. Hope to hear from someone. I've read probably 30 swap pages and none have the "ending". Everything is just up in the air.

as in.. ECU? Can a 96 accord trans work? (manual), if so, do I have to change the axles and the hubs? What transmission will be the least amount of "change" to the system? Gauge cluster? Shift lever and cables? I just need some thorough insite. Thanks again.

What, you posted two days ago and are giving up already?
This isn't one of the busiest forums, so you have to wait for a response instead of being impatient.

You need a manual ECU, 94-97 accord manual transmission will work and they should all be the same...I used one from a manual CL though, I'm pretty sure the axles have to be changed, I changed mine just because they were there anyway, gauge cluster you don't have to change but you'll have the PRND321 or whatever in there if you don't, I got all the extras from a crashed CL but the 5th gen Accord stuff should all be the same

I believe he had msg'd me with this question also but since I have a 3.0 I had not done much research on the 2.x motors and transmission similarities. I know I read the accords 3.0 manual would not work in the CL because of a hump or something either being on the car or the transmission (can't remember which) so I wasn't sure if this was the same with the 2.x or not, so I told him the best bet would be to post this question on the forum for you guys to answer

One custom CL
I converted my cl from auto to manual. I am using an h22 but it should be no diff. Does the 2.3 have an immobilizer? We will start with that. Pm if you want

So... I'm a year and 3 weeks late responding. DAmn it. I still have the same issue, had to put it on the backburner. This is what I have(n't) accomplished. I have purchased a mt from 1999 honda accord, ecu from said accord exl, cables, pedal, stick and clutch master cylinder reservoir. We just now have it in the garage and already can see one major difference, the trans mount. The whole mount is different. Even the part that attaches to the car CL that is welded. I don't know if I'm just nervous to mess the car up more (how really, it doesn't move) or if I'm going to get half way into this and horrible things will happen. Monsters. Anyway, I'm still looking for a write up, diligently. lol. If anyone has any thoughts, hit me up. PS. Thanks all. (How do I know if there is an immobilzer on it?)
