Common performance upgrades...

Hey guys. Before I begin, let me apologize in advance if this question has been asked a gajillion times (I looked around, couldnt really find what i was looking for.)

Well, here goes:

I just recently picked up a 97 CL 5spd and I was wondering what were some of the common power upgrades you could put on the thing. I'm sorta starting to get into this whole performance upgrade thing, but more than anything I just want to have fun driving my car.

I've read Cold air intake, new headers, etc. First off, (again, apologizing in advance if this is explained elsewhere) what exactly do some of these upgrades do for the car (and not just these two, but some of the others as well.)

Thanks for your input, and if there's a link explaining all of this stuff up already, You can link me up and lock this post out.

Thanks again,
-Alex

air intake allows the engine to get more and cooler air (better airflow and from outside the engine bay so its cooler)

headers give better flow to the exhaust

I wouldn't waste the money. You won't get much more out of the engine with bolt ons, waste of money. Either spray it (N2O) or FI (turbo). Otherwise, upgrade the brakes/suspention/stereo/etc and just enjoy the car.

Intake is great, but then everyone around you knows that you are WOT, and can see just how slow you move while giving her all she's got.

i have these mods (look at my signature)

get a intake (short or cold air.. its up to u) and then get headers, exhaust and suspension upgrades...

actually get it in this order:

1.)COLD AIR INTAKE (98-02 ACCORD, AEM, INJEN, WEAPON R, etc)
2.)SUSPENSION: Neuspeed, Eibach, Tein...
3.)HEADERS (OBX, DC)
4.)EXHAUST (Greddy, Apexi, Others..)
5.)RIMS (Racing Hart, Enkei, Volks, etc)
6.)CUSTOM BODYKIT or Wingswest Front Lip/Rear Lip
7.)HID's (Philips, OEM, others..)
8.)TINT
9.)AFTERMARKET SOUND SYSTEM (Alpine, Kenwood, others)
10.)NOS (Nitrous express..)
11.)and other stuff that floats your boat...

... you might go bankrupt after all these mods.. but who cares! as long as your having fun!

thanks guys... appreciating the feedback.

Haha legendary, we'll see if ch. 11 is an option after all this.

What would the diff. be between a short or cold air intake?

Also, thanks for the list... I'll start looking at some of this stuff now.

short ram is .. go figure.. shorter and sits right next to your battery, a cold air goes down into the duct and collects actual cold air coming your lower grill area. Short ram is torque'ier but the cold air is a little sluggish on the low end.. over all power gain the cold air produces more power.. UNLESS you have a short ram and you take out your right headlight.. but who would do something like that..

Also... what should I do as far as purchasing these items online goes?

I've already found AEM CAI's for 180 and OBX headers for 200... lots cheaper than buying straight from the companies.

Should I trust ebay, for example, or just find these items somewhere else? I mean, ive read horror stories of people putting up good cash just to get screwed hard by a spoof seller.. =\.

trust ebay as long as the seller has 100% or close to it for feed back.. also check to see if the seller's name has been around for a while.. or just created a new name.. there is a lot of scams on Ebay lately..
