cleaning the engine bay
cleaning the engine bay
Hi, I was cleaning my car for the first time since i bought it. the engine bay is really dirty looking. I was thinking about cleaning it but i had a bad experience with this before so i didn't. A couple of years ago, I was washing my mx-6 and cleaing the engine bay too. after i finished, i went out that night and the alternator just died. The mechanic told me that it got wet and got burned up. So i want to see what is the correct way to clean it? and what kind of cleaner should i use?? Thanks everyone
Simple Green it is!
I used SG on my engine bay the other month and the crap just fell off the engine when I hit it with some water. Good stuff. Just get a plastic bag and cover your distributor cap and wires with it before starting, you can also keep from spraying any water onto the alternator if you are paranoid about that.
I didn't have any problems. I had a hot engine bay, turned off the motor and did the work. That way most of the water can evaporate before cranking it up again.
Or do it on a nice warm day, detail the engine bay, leave the hood up for some sunshine and wait a few hours to be sure everything is dry.
