Check Engine light

My car has about 38,500 miles. It's a 99 2.3. The check engine light came on and I took it to Autozone to have it diagnosed. It came up saying "dealer code" or something along those lines. The guy there said that this sometimes is just a preset thing that comes up at a certain mileage to get you to come in to have the car looked at by the dealership. So he erased the code then I went on my way. A couple miles later the light has come up again. I really don't want to take it to the dealer and have them rip me off. Any suggestions?

Just take it to the dealer and see what they say. Just don't by into any of their BS. Ask for specific problems in detail.

It could be that the gas cap wasn't on too tight

Also, near the green maintenance required light, there's a little indentation, stick your key in there, and that might reset it.

It really could be anything, sometime it might be emissions related, so in that case unless you care about the environment you wouldn't have to do anything.

Anyway Good Luck.

Do Acura dealers usually charge to have the check engine light diagnosed? Mitsubishi did when I had my Eclipse checked.

I have already seen that link that you posted. And yes, four topics came up from the search. I read them all and took what I needed from them. I posted this to see if I could get anymore feedback.

Youll have to actually check the code before we can help.

Post it and we'll go from there.
