Charging Light !!!!

I installed a 180 amp alternator last weekend, and ran new ground and power wire....

yesterday when driving on the highway i steped on it to pass someone and the battery light came on.

i drove all day with it on and then when i was about to go out for the night i noticed that my capacitors were at 8 volts, so i shut off the car and disconnected the system power wire. then it wouldnt start back up.

after jumping it i realized that the battery wouldnt hold a charge anymore, and so i got it back to my house and pulled the battery

this morning i went to autozone and had the old batt tested, it was fine on one post, but the other was putting out like 4 volts.
so i went ahead and bought an optima yellow and installed it.

i reconnected everything and it started up great and ran really strong but still the charging light was on.

i had to do something so i left for about 5 hours and came back. the car started right up... but still had the battery light. i decided it might be a sensor or the battery fuse i had run the power wire from the alt through, so i wired teh alt straight to the positive battery terminal.

started the car and stil the battery light... so i decided that i have no idea what is going on and needed to ask you all.

any help would be great.

thanks.

Not sure man. When the car is running, what is the voltatge at the battery? It should be around +14v, or the alternator is not putting out or conencted right.

do our cars have an internal voltage regulator? if not maybee the extra amps could have fried that. 180 amp is a big ass alternator. maybee just too many amps for the car.
