Catback exhaust

Hey guys,
I try to put a catback exhaut system on my '97 3.0. But when I took it to the local muffler shop, CarX, they told me they can only replace the back pipe that go on to the muffler. They say the '97 Accord will only match the back pipe and muffler for my car but not the front pipe, and I want a complete set up. So, I hear lot of guy talk about custom pipe, is that what I need to run a complete catback set up? Please help me out! Also, I do a search and saw that lot of people go with Greddy. Is it really good? Cause I don't want any of those loud noisy exhaust.
Thanks,

custom piping is the way to go. try to get mandrel bent piping. just go buy a good muffler and your set. magnaflow's sound nice. I dont understand why you cant get a full cat-back. Greddy should make one.

I think you going to have to go custom. The accords are similar to the CL but not all the way. I would try to go for mandrel bent piping. Generally most exhaust will give u the same amount of HP, the sound though would be different, some nasty, some good. It not until you get a supercharger or turbo where the exhuast will help alot and matter.

I like mine a lot. the gate guard at one of the entrances to my school commented on it... I was suprised.

Sorry, but I kinda new to the mod world, so where can I get mandrel bent piping? Do I go to the muffler shop and ask them to do it or do I need to buy it from some store or website? If yes, which one?

You have to go to a special muffler shop. They need like a special machine or something. Normal garage has the normal bumpy pipe. Some place it is hard to find, while others place very easy.

mandrel bent piping is actually for turbo cars. if u r not gonna turbo ur CL, u can juss get normal piping. the sound wise...u wont feel or hear the different. datz wut my muffler shop said and his this guy in the valley 99% of people go to.

Yeah i wouldn't go crazy on this. Only when u do tubro and supercharger where the pipes and muffler type would matter.

I not quite get it, so with the custom bent pipe, I can get full catback exhaust. But do I still need to have the resonator or catalytic converter? Do the custom pipe replace the resonator or catalytic? Where do the custom pipe go?

All a cat back exhuast is, exhaust and piping to the Catalytic Converter. People prefer to get a full cat back exhaust like from greddy because the pipes and bends are usually nicer. But the muffler shop can do a custom cat back. Some people even cheaped out and just cut the muffler off and attached a performance one. Hp won't be a much of a difference with a naturally aspired engine.

header ====piping===== < Cat >====piping===( exhaust )=

cat back is the section from the cat to exhaust. You generally would not remove/hollow out the cat, because 1 it is illegal, 2 makes ur car smell like shit/rotten eggs.

I am one of those people that cheaped out and just simply got my muffler replaced. I did see an increase in my low end and high end power. Like Babyloc86 said, you don't need to worry about a bigger pipe unless you "blow" (aka turbo or supercharge) your engine. I would suggest saving your money and simply get a straight through muffler. My car has a deep low tone, but when the v-tec kicks in it sounds like a 5.0.
Just do a little fluid dynamics physics research and you will see why it is more effective to leave your pipe diameter the same and open up your back pressure, while keeping the system as straight as possible

Thanks for all the helpful hints. After this, I think I just try to replace my muffler and save up money for other mod.
