Catalytic Converter, can i go generic?

My cat is out. Acura quoted me 800 bucks, 700 for the cat and mounting brackets and gaskets alone. Will i throw codes if i put a generic cat on this thing?

Also, where can i buy a carsound cat?

Just get an aftermarket high flow cat, most ones on ebay have a mounting point for your stock o2 sensor, so you won't throw codes, screw acura and their $700 quote.

My catalytic converter died last month. The dealer charged me $400 for a brand new one and a muffler shop installed it for $50. You can reuse the brackets, hangers, gaskets & heat shield. The shop said that aftermarket converters aren't legal (at least in CA) and remanufactured or generic cats usually cause Honda products to throw a code.

i got a test pipe and it has the o2 sensor bung and the light still came on for catlyst below thresh hold but that is just a straight pipe.. go to midas or a muffler shop. its illegal to remove a working cat but they can remove it if you are throwin a code.

damn. I think i paid like 50 bucks for my cat and install was free...I have a friend that owned his own shop. But in nevada they dont even do a visual anymore. They used to but they dont anymore. I never had a problem with the aftermarket cat throwing a code. the only thing that i didnt like is that it made my exhaust more "raspy" sounded like a ricer....but it sounded kind of cooll on that car...
