car wont start??

when i hold my clutch pedal down the car wont start right away. i have to hold the key in the on position for several seconds. sometimes it wont even start on the first attempt. this has been going on for a few months now but it has gotten worse. any ideas as to what might be causing this to happen? fyi, plugs and wires were replaced recently as well as the timing belt and a valve adjustment.

if it clicks, its your starter. if it doesnt then its your alternator.

the problem is there whether i have a full tank of gas or when its empty. i think i will have the alternator tested and hopefully thats whats causing the problem. otherwise, this might turn into a costly repair. lol

the starter doesnt click, to me the starter seems to be fine. i've had experience with bad starters and this doesnt seem to have any of the problems of a failing starter.

Doesn't sound like the starter, that's a pretty obvious one

Your problem is likely the clutch lock-out switch is not closing to enable ignition power to flow to the starter. To prevent accidental starting, the clutch has a switch that prevents starting if the clutch is engaged (clutch not pressed down). If this switch sticks in the open (clutch up) position, then your car won't start. Your's sounds like it's sticking and then eventually releasing.

Switch is under the dash and bears against the clutch pedal arm. I would suggest spraying the switch liberally w/ WD40 and working the clutch up/down. If that doesn't help, then a new clutch switch will need to be installed.

good luck

Starting

If it is cranking the clucth sensor is okay, It sounds like ignition,, check the ignitions wires and also check the coil wire make sure that it is not corroded. that happens alot with the F series.
