Can't Wait 'til Sunday . . .
Can't Wait 'til Sunday . . .
The UPS man brought me the following!!!!!

I'll install everything on Sunday (with the help of my Uncle).
Zex Wet Kit (55-, 65-, 75-, and optional 100-shot jets)
Zex Pressure Gauge
Zex Remote Bottle Opener
Zex Bottle Warmer
I'm going to upgrade the fuel pump before putting in the 100-shot pill.
I can't wait!

Everything was $890, shipped. I sold the dry kit to my Uncle for $$$ plus help in installing the wet kit.
I'm trying to design a way to have all of my switches and buttons [Zex arming switch, purge button, bottle heater switch, and remote bottle opener button] located in the same area (but out of sight). Once I get that done, my Uncle is going to mount the switches & buttons, and wire everything up (he's much better/faster than me).

Sure, if I can.
I usually refer peeps to my Uncle (if I'm unable to help). He is just opening his own shop (stereo install--anything electronic), and is a whiz with cars. He's been doing this stuff for some time, now.
He completely tore apart his '95 VW Jetta, and rebuilt it himself (including engine work, paint, etc.), and won 1st place at Carlisle.
My dry kit is going into his Jetta.
YES, THIS HAS JUST BE A PAID ADVERTISEMENT FOR MY UNCLE! :P

WET KIT: The major improvement is the increase in "shot" that I can safe put into the engine. With a dry system, the highest "safe" shot is a 75-shot. The wet system allows a higher shot.
The wet kit allows the N2O to be mixed with gas before going into the engine, therefore allowing a more precise mixture, and less chance of detonation. This is especially true when running more than a 75-shot.
The major limitation with a dry system is that the cylinders may receive uneven amounts of N2O (which is sprayed into the air intake), then mixed with gas in the cylinder. A cylinder receiving more N2O than the others may lead to detonation. With the wet kit, an even mixture of N2O and gas will now enter each cylinder, therefore there is more precise regulation/metering and opportunity to go with a higher shot (e.g.: 100-, 125-, 150-shot). In return, you also get more power for the shot you use.
I weighted the benefits of spending the money for the wet kit, and decided that the opportunity to run a higher shot was worth it. Also, running a wet kit is just safer, even if I choose to run with the 75-shot, everyday.

My dry kit was bought used (along with the bottle warmer and pressure gauge--the purge kit was new), and I decided that I wanted to run with a new kit. I figured I'd move up to the wet kit (since the direct port set up was sooooo expensive).
Adam: I hope your kit arrives on Friday. We can have a N2O install "party".

Casper: I can't wait to see your CL!!!!

Jamie: I'm going to wait until I get the timing belt/water pump changed (in about 8K miles), then get the cams put in. I'm also going to upgrade my ignition, distributor, and pulleys at that time.
melo72: As soon as the track opens, I'M THERE!

dont' bother upgrading the fuel pump, you'll have enough fuel at that low of a shot. You will need a good fuel regulator though.
You're going to have one fast car there. I was thinking, if you want to hide your switches all together in one place, how about putting them inside the pocket under the radio, all you have to do is open the cover up. Or put them all in the cup holder. Just an idea.
hey rick, hope the kit goes well in the cl. youll be in the low 13's in no time at all. you just need to install you type s cams and bore out the block and youll be there in no time at all. good luck and remember to take pics when your uncle does the install of the kit.
Seems like a wet kit would send more unused N2O back to the fuel tank.
Does it use more N2O? Seems like the dry would all make it to the cylinders while the solenoid remained open.
The wet mixes in the fuel rail (correct me if I'm wrong) and would only inject with the opening of the injector while the rest is sent back to the tank.
Could the % delivered be the reason its safer along with the mixing theory?
Sorry for the q's but dont see anymore technical stuff here.

I found this explanation on the web:
________________
A wet system adds both nitrous and fuel in a correctly measured amount for all rpms. A dry system just adds nitrous and lets the ECU do the mixing. The biggest advantage to a wet system is you can go far above the fuel flow of the injectors when you add nitrous and you dont have to adjust ecu programming.
A correctly set up dry system can cost more, only works within the current injector flow (want more flow buy bigger injectors) and for best results the ECU should have a separate map for nitrous (basically pig rich).
_________________
Keep in mind that the N2O and fuel are still injected into the intake as with a dry fogger system. Unlike a direct-port setup, the N2O and fuel are not being directly injected into the cylinders. The wet systems adds fuel the to "fog" of N2O entering the intake.

If I would ever buy a Nitrous System... I would go with this new one:

I do not like to poke holes in the intake manifold.

The wet kit is completely installed!
WOW!!!!!!
Let's say that I had a blast cruising down I-70 from my Uncle's place in PA!!!!!!!
That BMW 330 never knew what hit 'em!!!!!!!
Blew him off like he was standing still!
Pics to come.
BTW: I can't wait to get to the track!

No. It went smoothly.
I should have taken pics during the install, but forgot my camera.
The biggest concern was taping into the fuel line, but that all went well.
The most time went into wiring the switch for the remote bottle opener. I kept the location of the other switches (which saved considerable time).
Overall, it was a pretty simple (but somewhat time consuming) process.

Hey Rick! Dang man, we gotta hook up when the track opens or something. I want to see that setup in action. I know you'll be in the 13's, just wanna see where you land.
Way to raise the bar!
As you put that on this Sunday, I put back the stock exhaust and intake on.
no more fun for me...
Keep up the good work and be safe!

Peace

CASPER: You bet!
Mike: It feels about the same (maybe a little firmer kick--for example, at a 20mph roll and with my Uncle in the car with me, I floored it in 1st gear, and the freakin' tires just spun and the car began creaping over to the side!!!!!!!!).
Seth: I'll contact you before hitting the track. Again, really sorry to see you get rid of the CL!

Here are some pics. They're not much, but pics all the same. [I left the Zex arming switch and purge button in their original location--in the cup holder. I didn't feel like moving them. Also, the purge kit is also in the same location (no pics).]
New Zex Bottle, Remote Bottle Opener, Bottle Warmer, and Pressure Gauge.

Another View.

Better shot of Pressure Gauge.

Location of Remote Bottle Opener switch.

Location of Bottle Warmer Switch (same place it was with the dry kit).

Location of Zex Arming Switch and Purge Button (again, same location as before).

Zex Management Unit (which is about 1/3 the size of the dry unit).

Another view (note TEMPORARY filter/short ram set-up until new CAI arrives).

Fuel/N2O Nozzle.

Another view.

Location of fuel tap.

So far I've found 205/55/16 and 225/55/16. I'm not sure which to get.
