Camber Kit Question...

Can someone tell me exactly what a camber kit does? do i need one?, cuz my friend was tellin me i do or my tires will wear out, i just got my 2.2 lowered with some eibach sportlines and tokico non-adjustables, about a 2" drop. Also, after my spring install, my alignment, which was alrteady bad, got worst. it's pretty bad rite now. will a camberkit help it at all? if i just want to get the alignment fixed, how much will the dealer charge? one more thing, how much do camber kits normally run for? what are good brands?

it adds a ball joint on your suspension so when the car is lowered the joint allows the wheel to stay at the corrected 0 degree camber, depending on the drop.

they are very much worth the money. you should only need them on the front.

we sell the ingalls kit for the front (the best on the market) for $85.

A camber kit corrects for the negative camber that you get from dropping the car. If you were to look at a dropped car with out a camber kit you will notice that the top of the wheel is slanted towards the car. Because of the position of the wheel slating towards the fender the tire is not evenly touching the ground. This causes uneven wear on the inside of your tire only. Before I put a camber kit on my car the front tires that were brand new were worn to the wires only in about two months. So if your car is dropped more than two inches get one asap. I have an ingalls kit on the front and the back. Its a great kit and would recomend it. After you install a camber kit it still wont be doing nothing until you get your car aligned. Coolman this can also be a problem. Most places won't do an alignment to a dropped car. They always come up with an excuse of why they wont do it. ( the car won't make it on the lift or the computer won't be able to figure out the alignment etc...) Once you find a place that will do it, it won't be as cheap as taking it to pep boys to do an alignment. Anyways help this help you out and sorry if its long. Good Luck

yo ross, u say the ingalls kit has a ball joint and will correct the camber.......in other words ur saying i just install it and it ajusts itself to 0 degrees or do i have to get an alighment to set it at 0. Im think u have to set it urself. Installing it will give u only the adjustablity so u can adjust it. whats the best price u can have it shipped to HOUSTON . im interested,

you still have to set it yourself, but the shop can do that when they look at the drop.i can ship the kit to houston for $85 + $14 shipping.

Camber kit is all great and such, but that 85 you spend on each corner, if you install them yourself, doesn't mean anything with a crappy alignment. Call around, and find out who does good alignments, especially w/ lowered cars.

The kit that Ross is selling is not $85 for each corner but for the front two corners. Its a good kit and its probably the same one I have on my car. Its really is worth it if your car is dropped, unless you like buying new tires every couple of months.
But R1 you are right with out an alignment the camber kit won't be doing nothing for you. And alignments for dropped cras arent cheap, atleast in my neck of the woods. My alignment cost me $120.00.

its not for each corner, its for the front.

and its more than worth the money. you will buy tires 3 times quicker with a negative camber, and you will pay $85 just for one. it SAVES you money.

My point being, the best camber kit isn't going to matter if the alignment sucks.....of course it saves money when installed and aligned correctly.

correct, but improper alignment wont cause uneven tire wear. it will cause accelerated tire wear, but even wear. alignment affects toe in and toe out, and possibly caster, but not camber. either way you need the total package. you can drive for miles without an alignment and may never notice much of a difference. but you wont get far with a 4 degree negative camber.
