buying a beater

So yesterday i had my 3rd alignment done. It was 90.00. As a 17 year old with a part time job and several car payments i find it very hard to pay for my CL and the high amount of maintenance that comes with it. Plus id really like to save some milege on my car so i could sell it for more later.

Today, i have decided i need to buy a beater. I know alot of people around here have them. I've looked on ebay and there isn't really much. Im not looking to spend more than like 300.00 (yea i know, but like i said i don't have alot of money).

Where did everyone buy their cars? It seems like i ready all the timet hat people get these cars for like a hundred bucks. Where do i need to go? Is the junkyard a good place? What should i do?

Thanks

I don't really think i worded that right. Im buying the beater because i really don't want to put the wear and tear on the CL. Its a very fragile car and it seems like ever few weeks something needs to be fixed.

I just want a beater that i can do whatever to and not give a shit about.

yes you can buy a beater for 300 but it will eventually cost you. something will go wrong. plus, that puts insurance on another car. in my opinion, a beater is only worth it if you actually have money and dont want to mess up an expensive car. my

i sold my beater because the insurance cost wasn't worth it.. got 800 for it straight up to put towards the cl.. much better IMO than keeping my junk ass galant around.
but do what you want. id rather put the miles on my cl and do the maintenance on it than pay the insurance+maintenance on the beater plus the cl.

See, i dont really want to have to take care of it. For 200 bucks i just want to drive it when i need to and not have to worry. If it needs shit done, then i just wont do it.

I forgot about insurance though, i guess that IS alot.

you want to pay 200, not put any other money in, and get from place to place with nothing to worry about? that isnt goin to happen. and then there's gas and insurance. less maintenance on a honda built product than any 87 oldsmobile that you will get for 200. you should sell your cl, take whatever money you have left after paying your loan to buy an accord with low miles cash. a possibly more feasible option for you at 17 years of age?

a beater for me is like a $3000-4000 civic ek hatch with some milage....those cars are awesome for daily driving and can take a bullet and then some....

spending less will only cost more in headaches and the possibility of being stranded somewhere in my opinion

i say just stay with you CL, or sell it and buy a less expensive car and throw your dreams of a CL away like an ex-girlfriend that dumped your ass, untill you're a bit older and got more $$, and less insurance

at firestone you can buy a lifetime alignment for like 175 bones. at least then you wouldn't have to drop 90 every few months.

yeah buying a beater for the luittle isn't worth it in the long run. I am also planning on buying a beater because i live in new england the the winter's here suck. Luckily right now i still live at home and theres an extra car that nobody drives, for right now but im looking to buy a daily river soon and have the cl as a project car. i already put a ton of $$ into it and don't want to see it get ruioned. It only has 45k on it too. However I'm looking to spend about 3-4,000 on a beater. 3-400 isn't even worth it.

only way i would see this being worth it is if you drove a hugh truck that eat up gas. Cl is very nice with how few times i have to fill up .also i live in nyc so im in pothole heaven over here,Whell alignments i have got one so far and that was due to a accident where my rim fell in to a freshly made pot hole about 8inchs deep due to heavy rain conditions (man i wish i could of sued the city on that cost about $350 for rim tire and alignment ...).after that been pretty well with not needing alignments. But most of these people on this forum live in nice areas where they can drop there cars ad nice rims and have 0 worries (my sin is envy )

your out of your mind.

im all for the beater,

but once again, your being irrational and your out of your mind.

if u get a beater, the best idea is to take the CL off the road (ins + reg)

while you have the beater registered.

i saved very minimal money with the beater because i modded the CL while its

not insured . Bottom line is this.

your 17... just enjoy the CL for now... your not gonna get near to what u payed

for it in the first place... so just ride it out and eventually the CL will be the beater.

For me, we (my family) purchased the acura in 2001 w/ 7,000 miles for 20k .

The CL is a reliable car with few repairs, unless you have auto transmission problems. Thinking that you will save repair money by driving the beater is not very smart. Also, you say you want to save milage on the CL so you can sell it for more later, but with the rate the car is depreciating you will really lose out by not driving it.

People buy Acura's for that exact purpose. They last until 200K with minimal problems. Sure a brake job will cost you a lot but do u realy think an 87 Camry or something will give you less problems than an Acura CL. There's a reason these beaters are 300 bucks...

its going to cost you no matter what. you will still be making payments on the cl while paying and upkeeping the beater. you dont buy a $400 and expect it to live very long.

What is so fragile about the car? Seriously, I've put over 20k miles on mine in 2 years and replaced the fuel filter and alternator. Maybe you have a lemon? Not sure if you are having work done by Acura/Honda but there are mechanics that charge a lot less if you shop around (mine is $30/hour, damn cheap).

Anyways, I don't think 300 would buy much of a beater (not around here). Bump it up to 1k and get an older accord/civic that might have some cosmetic problems but runs good.

GL on your search.
