Brake&Rotors CHange
Hey guys/girls,
Has anyone of you had a chance to change rotors and brake pads themselves?
How hard is it?
Instructions, pics...
Thanks.

I did a complete brake job for my son, it takes longer to jack the car and remove the tire than it does to change the rotor and brake pads.I did not take any pictures but if you are the least bit a mechanic you will have no problem at all.
What type of rotors are pads are you thinking about getting? I was thinking towards either powerslot, power stop, or brembo rotors....and some axxis pads..
Plus I want to get the SS Brake lines

Brakes are the most fool-proof job on a car other than changing the oil... I put power slot slotted rotors on the front with some upgraded pads (forgot the brand, autozone has them) front and rear, and I can stop on a dime now, I love it. The stock brakes just dont drag that heafty V6 down quick enough for me... especially when I'm doing 140 on the highway... I wanna be able to slow down for those pesky porkers! Besides, my car needed brakes so I figured why the hell not upgrade? Good choice.

Last week I replaced the rotors and pads on my 3.0 CL. I tried to find drilled Brembo rotors but was unsuccessful so I very reluctantly used factory rotors.
It is very easy to do. You will probably need an impact phillips screwdriver to remove the two small retaining screws on each rotor. You will also need two machine screws (I forget the size)to help force the rotor off the axle. Two 17mm bolts hold the caliper in place. A 3/4 inch drive is a must because I found it very difficult to break these bolts free without using a slugging wrench. The piston on each caliper simply pushes back into the cylinder, you do not turn it. I opened the bleed port and just let the xs fluid drain into a cup.
This is the second Honda product I have owned as I had a Prelude VTEC previously. On both cars the front rotors eventually warped with indications of stress cracks on the surface. I replaced the Prelude rotors with drilled Brembo units and never again had a problem. I drive somewhat aggressively but I do not race and certainly do not drive differently than on any previous vehicle (M3, 300Zx Turbo, RX7, etc.). Only the Honda products exhibited this problem which leads me to believe their brakes simply suck.
I did just discover from Brembo that their replacement rotors are not drilled. The ones that are drilled are drilled by third parties. They told me that they found too many quality problems with the third party drilling so they are now in the process of preparing to market their own drilled replacement units. They also do not have a replacement unit for the 1998 3.0 CL. They have one for the 1997 model but not the 1998. I thought they would be identical but the Brembo rep I spoke said I should not use their 1997 units on a 1998 vehicle.

I am replacing my pads with Axxis Metal Master. They are coming tommorow. And with rotors BREMBO & BRADI CROSS DRILLED & SLOTTED ROTORS for front only (rear I would just resurface at a shop). Planning on painting calipers in red.

Hey how much did you pay for the rotors and where did you get them?
Brembo does make a front brake and rotor up grade for the 98-99 3.0 CL. Comptech sells it for $2395.00(cross-drilled 13" rotors)
