Brake light on... sometimes.

Sometimes my brake light is on. What's sort of a BRAKE 101 that I can do?

1. I know I can replace pads but haven't ever done it yet.

2. I'm not sure about checking the fluid. Fill or drain and replace?

2. Adjust? Bleed? (terms borrowed from overplayed radio commercial)

3. I would like to put on new front rotors sometime.

There are no squeaking or scraping sounds.

Do you mean the yellow ABS light, or the red brake lamp in the dash? They mean totally different things. The red brake light usually means a bulb is out, or there is water in the bulb socket. The ABS light usually means low brake fluid, or a bad wheel speed sensor

The red one in the dash. Both brake lights are working.

the fluid level sensor is extremely sensitive. as your pads and rotors wear down, the brake piston compreses more so the fluid level in your reservoir goes down gradually. There's min and max lines right on the reservoir. I would take the top off the reservoir first, b/c on my car the sensor gets stuck so make sure it can move up and down and then put the top back on. If that doesn't work, then just top it off with some fresh fluid and you should be good to go.
