Black circular box
Black circular box
Okay, so I just installed my V2 today and I'm sooo confused.
I would just like to make it clear and it WOULD be nice if we could add this to the newb guide. THE PARTS FOR A 94-97 HONDA ACCORD WILL _NOT_ FIT MY 1998 2.3CL PREMIUM EDITION. There is a lot of tweaking involved, and mainly it just does not fit. I've encountered this with the exhaust, and now the intake.
The first problem we encountered was taking the wheel well part out, I basically broke both of the plastic locks in there-but it's held on by two metal screws anyway.
The second problem I had was what I made this post for. There is a black box that sticks up RIGHT where the intake is supposed to go, next to where the intake attaches to the frame and in front of the battery (if you're looking towards the engine). I have _NO_ idea what that is. I was short on time so I just stuck it somewhere without bolting it down. I didn't see it in the DIY on this forum or the instructions that came with the intake. It has three rubber tubes going into it. Is there any word on what this is? I tried searching but I'm not sure what to search for. I can't look right now but it said something like, "Acura ~PPG~" on it
I don't know if I can rip it out or what. It's just resting directly under the intake pipe for now.
Also, what is a V2 supposed to sound like when you get it installed? I can only hear a very low growl when I get into higher rpms in 2nd and 3rd gear and that's not what I remember hearing for a CAI, I would guess that the sound is different. I'm just worried I didn't install it correctly. I didn't replace the rubber tubing or anything like the guide says.
Lastly, the rubber tube that goes onto the intake itself, how is that supposed to be held on? I make-fitted a rubber tube and two clamps to get it on there. There is no code being thrown by the engine, but I havn't reset the ECU yet.

By the way, that was my venting. I'm just angry about the whole thing. I'm done being pissed about it. Now I'm just slightly irratated

ive got a 2.2, but I dont think it would be much different than a 2.3 sooo
The stock intake is composed of two tubes... the main rubber tube that is obvious, and then another smaller tube under the main one. the smaller tube has a box thingy at the end of it, which is what im assuming youre talking about (if not, im just wasting my time but its alll good). Unbolt it and rip it out. There is a small tube connected to the top of the box thingy that you just pull off and leave it. There is a little round thing connected to it, so that might be what youre talking about as well, and i just left it in there unplugged.
I hope this helps, maybe not though. I tried
good luck man
oh yeah, youll hear all sorts of fun noises from your intake. growling, sucking
, maybe even a little bit of a hum.
as far as connecting rubber tubes, the intake, and the throttle body, you should use the clamps supplied. You can reuse the original clamp from the OEM intake to the throttle body if you need to.
EDIT: nevermind, I see you have pictures now... Take it out (but dont break it) and unplug the hoses. run your car. If it works with no cel, rejoice! if the car gets pissed, put it back in.
Follow the hoses and see where they go

Here's where 1 hose goes:

Here's what the thing is called. I traced it back up into another large container, it seems to be a fluid container of some kind. It turns into a hose (the tube does) when it gets further back towards that second container.

It says:
Honda

take it out if u want. My car was running fine after i took it out for half a year. no check lights, no nothing. But i put it back on recently. That thing will fit if you unbolt it and bend the supporting bracket down some.
same thing happened to me with that crap. first off my sri barely cleared the strut tower and then i couldnt get it down in the space because that pp~g thing was in the way. i tried looking where the hoses went and i couldnt figure wtf it did, i unbolted it and just threw it aside and jammed the intake down into where it was. that can-lookin thing is empty from what i felt when i had it in my hand, god knows whats the point, especially since theirs only one hose going into it and no hoses coming out.
if it helps i also have a 98 2.3 premium. anyone else seen this thing?

I'm thinking that is part of the evaporative emissions system or part of the vacume accumulation system. In either case, it is not a good idea to simply remove it. I will look at the Mitchell tonight and see if it can tell us anything. I don't have the support disc with me at the moment.
OK, I found it, it is part of the evaporative emissions system. It is a charcaol cannister and it is designed to remove moisture from the vacume system. REMOVE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Hope this helps.
