Best place to buy brake pads?

Got the squeeks for a few weeks now it's definitely time for some new ones - planning on installing these on our own. What's a good place to buy them? Also is there a mechanics guide for the job?

This is pretty easy, front or back? People will likely tell you to spend loads of money on some aftermarket ceramic that cost about $100 but unless you are driving your car like a 16 year old with a fresh license, you'll be fine going to the local parts store and picking up whatever ceramic pads they have there and some grease for the back of them so they dont squeel.

Just go get a decent set of ceramics and you'll be set. It's a very easy change.

Also dont forget to machine(resurface) your rotors or change them, if they are out of spec.

If you are not going with performance pads, I would definitely recomend oem honda brake pads. They only cost about $40-50. In my experience these are the only pads that do not squeak. I have had horrible experiences with autozone nd pepboys brand brake pads. As for the job, make sure to have a can of brake parts cleaner, torque wrench, caliper pin grease(to grease caliper pin and also back of pad that makes contact with caliper), c-clamp to compress the piston.

+1. You can't go wrong with Honda pads. They are quiiiiiet and resist fading better than any aftermarket pad I have tried. They also come with new shims and a packet of molybdenum grease to apply to the rear of the pads.

as for the rotors, I again recommend Honda rotors only because I have seen them go 60,000+ mi. without warping. Cannot say I've had the same luck with aftermarket stuff.

anti-seize on the back of the pads will reduce any squealing later on too. Dont need much, and dont get any on pads or rotors cause you will want to kill yourself.

Advance Auto. Get some wagners for like 45-50 bucks a set. Or Friction Master Ceramic pads. Whichever suit you best!

Should I be replacing front and back at the same time? The sound only comes from the front.

Nah, just do the front brakes. Don't fix something that isn't broken.

take your wheel off, place the lugs back on moderately hand tight. With a dial indicator measure the lateral run out in thousands of an inch "0.001 at the most outter edge of the rotor. Anything more then 5thou replace. Do not bother to resurface, it is a waste of money and time, just get new.

Pop off the rear wheel and have a look at the thickness, since you already have the jack out.

On my 98 3.0 the piston has to be "screwed" back into the caliper. The front, piston is compressed back in with a larger Cclamp.

As far as rotors, i put these on:

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/pro...pe=221&PTSet=A

and have been loving them. I still think that price is a mistake. If the warp in the next two years return them. Can't beat that. You'll know if you need to replace or have your current rotors resurfaced if you get a viberations when you brake. At least in my area $18 a rotors was cheaper than resurfacing.

If you just need OE replacement regular ceramic pads try NAPA or Autozone. If you want some performance pads check out our web store: http://store.excelerateperformance.com and look for Hawk ceramics.

Sounds like I am headed to Kragen to pick up front brake pads. Is there a DIY or manual scan on here for the install?

Thanks to all who have replied.

If you've changed pads in a vehicle before, it's no different. I believe there's two bolts that hold the caliper on. Unbolt, remove the pads. Use a C-Clamp to push the piston back in. Set in the new pads, and bolt the caliper back on.

that belong to the last owner i wanna keep them on my
car, though soon i might have to replace should i get them
resurface or just buy new rotor.

I dont like to resurface because you only make the rotor more susceptible to warp sooner. Personally I thinkg it is only a quick fix. Just get new. Big on safety, never cheap on brakes

you can't resurface drilled/slotted rotors

^ dont see why not; and dont buy oreillys house brand, brake best, they cause a lot of dust but on the plus side they are cheap and good stopping pads.

You can try, most shops won't even try for you. They warp easily as it is
