Audio question...

I searched... but none of it really helps me...

First, I'll give you all some background info.
'97 2.2 Manual;
Stock everything (clear corners in the mail( )and blue clock mod( also)

I want more bass... I don't need a lot...
I want more volume... I don't need a lot more of that either
I want it to sound good/exceptional
I don't really have a price range because I have to save for whatever I'm going to get anyway so more expensive would mean just save for longer.

My question is:

What setup should I get considering that I do not need as much as a lot of people here want, but I still want high quality sounding stuff

Just get some good components or 6x9's if you don't want real bass

Like we always say when talking about car audio, it all depends on what you want to spend, i'd recommend some infinity kappas, alpines, or JL to name a few

Ok, that price range, are you trying to do all 6 speakers, or just the back 2?

I have 1 12' Alipine Type R, but my components are still stock. It's not enough bass to screw your ears up, but it's just enough so people know you have a sub.

get a JL w3 10 or 12. with like 300 watts, it will do u perfect. THats what i just had, and for a little bass, its the best setup u can have. Sadly i got rid of it. on the other hand, yesterday i went and picked up an L7 12, with a 1600 watt amp from a local a ziner, and it is rediculously sweet.

I would recommend not replacing the 6X9s. I have MB Quart components up front and they are amazing for what I want. They sound really good and I don't even have my 6X9s hooked up. I had them installed for a bit, but had to rework some stuff and haven't got around to it yet. Without the 6X9s there is no real noticable difference in the sound quality.

I would get a nice set of components for the front and an amp for that. I got my Mb Quarts for around $150. You would really want to get an amp for that, but wouldn't have to spend a ton on it.

If you do get components, depending on the size you may need to adjust the fit with spacers in the doors. It really isnt hard just requires a little more work. Dunno if you plan on installing it yourself, but it is very doable.

well you sound like me in terms of what you want..
do you have the bose system?
i just upgraded the headunit and am happy with that.
seriously, just start with that and see if you want more..
it really does make the rest of the system sound so much better.
my next sound upgrade, if i ever do one, is going to be eliminating all the rattle.. not a sub or new components or anything..

See, it's inbetween the side of the trunk and the side of the box...it fits perfectly

I put a little heavy duty velcro on the bottom - just the hard side - to help it from sliding around. If you push it back in there far enough, it ends up touching the back of the backseats and the velcro isn't necessary, but helpful.

I did put dynamat on the interior of the trunk lid and behind my plate, but you won't need it elsewhere. Also, I have an Alpine headunit - continuity is a beautiful thing

please people...when you hook up the bose factory radio to aftermarket speakers you are making the sound worse. it may sound bassier but you'll probally notice also sound alot tintier. its because all bose for autos run at a different ohm load than the standard car speaker. its kind of like hooking a home speaker up to your car. please do the right thing and get an aftermarket deck and bypass the amp.

If you get an amp will it solve these problems?

nope bose is all rated at 1 ohm no frakin 4 channel amp out der can handle such a low load u will end up destroying any amp u buy unless u get a ridicously good amp but from what ive seen 1 ohm stable very rare even for sub amps. As for wanting bass just a liil dont upgrade anything fix any and all rattle first den get sum dynamat in der and ull here it becomes a lil louder and a lil more bassier if dat turns out to be enough ur good otherwise at least ur set for getting a sub having dynamated ur car already and new speakers wwhich i suggest running off hu first if u dont get what u like outta dem den upgrade and get a amp.

as far as speakers and components go, id say Infinity Kappa, and if youve got the money Alpine Type-X Components...... GOD they're worth it....... and then some Kappas in back, Infinity Kappas and Alpine Type-R are quite possibly the best bang for your buck in terms of performance, there are better speakers, but they'll all run you like 2x the price

in the bass category my old 10" Alpine Type-E is pretty good, I mean its clean bass, its loud enough, and if I want it to kill my ears, I can make it do that too (currently overdriving it by about 100 watts)......... BUT heres the deal if you get some spacers and put GOOD 6.5s in the rear deck, then amp those it'll provide enough bass, if you stick with 6x9 and send just enough bass to um, they'll be loud since the cone is bigger... but they'll distort like crazy, but then again, since youve got the amp wires goin anyways, may as well get a sub right......

oh yeah and I forgot to mention........... without a good headunit to process the signals well, even the best system wont sound right.......... so none of that cheap sony crap, Alpine and Pioneer is where its at, Alpines recent models arent all that great next to units of old so id say Pioneer

ive got a Alpine CDA-9855 hooked in with a CHA-S634 6-Disc MP3 CD Changer, and it works wonders, that CD changer is awesome........ and even with the stock speaker setup it sounded alot better than the CDM-9823 that was in there before

i agree.... i got a new headunit (clarion) and kept the stock speakers...i got a JL 12w3 sub in the trunk with a ported box and a 600 watt rockford fosgate amp and it sounds amazing... the Headunit was around $125 with shipping...the sub was aroudn $150ish and the amp i got used on the black market for like $75

if you do enough research you can get good stuff cheap..i would not reccomend buying used audio equipment

well if you want sq (sounds like that's your primary objective) I'd check out a set of hertz components

other 'audiophile' components would be dls iridium or higher series, rainbow components, peerless components (baller), focal, morel (baller again). a lot of these aren't 'household' names, but are the ones that you'll find winning competitions.

you'll also want a headunit or processor with time alignment....good 'pure sq' headunits are the pioneer prs800 or prs880 and eclipse 7xxx series and the alpine 98xx's. You will, however, get the best bang for the buck with the pioneer prs's, as they have built in auto rta mic tuning and the greatest equalizer customization. I have one and it's awesome. Now if you're really serious, you can step up to the Clarion drz9255 which is probably one of the best sounding headunits ever made, but realize that it won't play mp3's without a changer. Also realize it's about 6xx bucks.

As for subs, my suggestions for SQ would be the image dynamics idq v3's or idmax's, dls iridium mw12, or for the ultimate, peerless lotus 12". That thing is the epitome of greatness.

Amps: if you want sq, go with the dls ultimate series, anything made by audison, old school ppi art series, brax, or zapco.

You stated money isn't really an object, so I threw out pretty much the best of the best. If you shop around you can get pretty good deals on them. Good luck
