audio head deck change question

well, i was thinking of changing my stock Bose system deck to a Pioneer DEH-8300 or the cool, but way too expensive DEH-9300 with the downloadable animation feature. But my question was if i was going to make that change, would my audio controls be useless on the steering wheel?
thanx

hey welcome to the board. im a newbie also. but any ways i was just thinkin gt he same thing. i would like to know also. Im thinking that ur steering controls will NOT work but let me know if there is a way.
My steering controls dont work well anyways. it doest work when my steering wheel is straight. i have have to move it when i want to control it. Yea it sucks. kinda dangerous going 90 on the freeway and have to "swanG" to the side just to change the station.hahaha

I am pretty sure your controls will be useless, but your new head unit will have a remote control so its not that big of a deal. I can get the 9300 for about $650.

My friend is a instaler for good guys, and he told me that he could get a module that makes the controls work with my new deck. He has a 325i with similar controls and it works with his kenwood dvd.

well its is useless if u dont wire the new headunit with a certain type of module like skanlis said...otherwise u have a remote...hehe...for me it would have costed a lot more to get that done labor wise and i figured i barely used those controls...so in my opinion why pay to get it installed if u dont use it anyways...but just personal opinion...but it can be done...just remember anything can be done, just how much ur willing to pay for it
