Argh! Stupid random wire!

Well, I finally broke down and bought one of those PIE AUX adapters for the car to hook up my iPod up to. I put it all back in very nicely (did a DIY btw if you ever want to do this) but I want to dremel a tiny hole just big enough to where the 3.5mm jack could go through. Well, I was almost done till I popped off the little gray rectangle where I was going to dremel the hole but to my surprise, there is a random wire plugging into it! I mean, wtf? I'm thinking it's for an aftermarket security system but I'm not sure. Could I just disconnect it and drill my hole as planned?

On another note, I never thought I would say this, but the Bose sound system sounds GREAT! I was playing A Milli and it sounded like I had a small sub in the trunk! Then put on some hard rock and everything sounded so clear! WAYYY better than the radio and noticeably better than the CD player!

lol i got all kinds of funny wires that dont lead to no where. one time i was isntalling my fog lights and i found 6 wires that didnt connect to anything..seriously...i pulled them out and there was nothing at the other end. fuckin jerks..whoever did my dvd system mustve left them there.

in your case. try to unplug it...run the car for a while and then run all your electronics...signal lights, head lights, etc...if they all work..then fuck it..just leave it off but dont cut it off..

but thats just what i would do. ...other people will prolly tell you otherwise

I'm pretty sure all of our cars have that... I think its just pre-wiring for seat warmers or fog lights or something like that... I have that too btw

Yeah it's just there, the grey dummy plug is just that.. a dummy plug. You can tuck it away after unplugging it. You will see there aren't any contacts when you unplug it... just on the wiring itself.

i'd be careful with just unhooking it... when i had my dash torn apart installing my stereo, i had to make a run to walmart for something, and unfortunately, found out that one of those was connected to my turn signals... i'm with germ on this one. make sure you test it out, and try to run everything with it unplugged and then you should be good...

i'd just run that wire somewhere else, wouldn't look clean having a 3.5mm jack coming up out of the console, i'd run it into the armrest or ashstray etc.. just my though

It's the fog light wires, the wiring is all there behind your bumper too

Your turn signals would not work because they are ran through the hazard light switch located above the radio. Same thing happened to me then I realized what it was.

anyone have any ideas what the empty wire bunch is above the radio opposite the hazard lights switch? I have a similar bundle of wires that ends there...

Actually i retract my last statement, just looked at pics of a 98, the seat heater buttons are on each side of the shifter, the fog light button on the 98's is to the right of the clock

So since I have wires on the right side of the clock, is my car wired for fogs? I think I heard someone say something about that on a previous thread...

You have all the wires for fogs, even if you didnt have factory fogs the wiring is still there. The factory does this to save time and aggravation of picking and choosing which cars get the fog light package. All you are missing is basically the lights themselves and the switch, maybe a relay, the wires are there.
