anyone here replace their thermostat?
anyone here replace their thermostat?
i am getting a lot of heat from underneath the car and was looking to replace it with a cooler temp. any info is much appreciated. if you know the factory thermostat temp, or have any experience with these let me know. all i know is running a cooler therm keeps the engine a little cooler, and we all know that is better! thanks guys!
Running the engine cooler than its intended operating temperature is not a good thing... you lose efficiency, power, mileage, longevity, etc.
All engines will feel uncomfortably hot at their normal temperature.

actually, thats not the case with some cars. the radiator fan (electric fan) operates from a different sensor than the thermostat. so the antifreeze will still run at its factory temp, but the thermostat will keep the engine cooler even though the fan is running at its regular temp. we did this little trick on a 94 eclipse with an electric fan and it kept the engine a bit cooler. we went from a 185 degree stat to a 160 degree stat.
there are a lot of tricks out there that sound bad for an engine... but increase its performance.
one example is water injection. everyone thinks water in your intake is a bad thing, which it is 90% of the time. but water injection is a new trick (new to me at least) that my friend and i have been experimenting with recently. using the right percentage, water in your intake increases your compression rate, as well as having no effect on your engine. if it is sprayed properly it is heated to steam.... i really shouldnt go on anymore it is kind of a secret until we are 100% it is working correctly. so far his rs has beaten many gsx's.
anyone else?

no n20 huh. h20. h20 inside. i never actually heard anyone replacing their stat. on my truck it is very common to change to a 160 degree one. same with camaros and stangs. firebird, t/a's whatever. dont really know about imports though.
I replaced the one i had in my chevy truck it mad the motor run cooler and run great and i added a can of some 40 below made it ever colder. Too cold, in the fall and winter my truck started to not get warm enough to get out of the warm up choke thingy made for realy bad gas mileage
