im sure you could also drive your car 20,000 miles with no oil changes before you notice its all screwed up. why push the car into a bad situation?

I just had mine done at 117,000 along with the water pump replacement. I had them also do the brakes and a full 90,000 mile tune up so I paid a lot but I rarely have time to go to the mechanic so I had to take care of everything at once. My car runs very smooth now (knock on wood) and it is a noticable difference.

I'm of the mindset that if you get everything done at once from one shop its ususally cheaper in the end than doing things seperately.

If you go to the dealer I would recommend having them do the recall work as well as long as you are there.

Timing belt

Well, I just took my 2001 CL-S in to the shop for the SRS light being on. It only has 78k miles and in the past two years has only been driven about 15k miles total.

They recommended the timing belt be replaced because it's at 7 years - 7 hours of work and $1060.

Now considering the car only has 78000 miles, is this really worth it yet? I'd rather stretch it out a bit but the dealership was very adamant about changing it to avoid a catastrophe.

I hate when they put this seed of guilt and doubt in your mind.

Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated - I'd like to change it around 90k (when I was originally planning on it).

Thanks!
-Chris

I go to Upper Saint Claire to visit my cousins! Anyways, I think you're a little too cautious about your timing belt. Of course I do care about my car and would rather not kill it, but I don't want to "jump the gun" too soon either.

I'm at 120k, got that car with 112k, not sure if the previous owner changed it but i'm thinking i should start saving up for it. And coincidence that today i took it in because " MY FREAKING GAS TANK IS LEAKING" and the mechanic was asking what work have i done to it so far and he mention about changing the timing belt.

About the gas tank now.. smelled gas when i left work yesturday, checked underneath when i got home, nothing.. this morning when i got in the car the smell got worse.. took it to the shop and found out its the gas tank.

she's gonna be there over the weekend will see what happens monday..

Ha, I need to update my location list because I don't live in USC anymore.

I am a Mt. Lebo person now and unfortunately, I might not be an Acura owner much longer. A bimmer or Infiniti has been calling for the past few months now and the urge is killing me.

But I have been roaming those forums, and nothing is like ACURAZINE.

Bimmer forums = Arrogant

Infiniti forums = I have an entry level nice car and think I am to good to respond to a forum.

This site is part of the reason I have held on to my cars for so long, but I have never been to an Acurazine meet, it might be a cool way to send off my cars.

Change the timing belt & the water pump at the same time!

Heck I changed mine @ 135,000KM (84375Miles), and luckily I did it too.

Mechanic checked it out when I requested it (was in shop for other minor replace/maintenance), and he noticed the belt was coming loose off the tensioner!

Imagine if it slipped...I was damn lucky

For those going by mileage alone as a guideline, don't delay, because you need to take into account the weather conditions as an important variable too.

I live in a brutally cold environment, and a hot humid one in the summer (Canada of course!), so the wear and tear were attributed to the weather extremes, compared to possibly others who live in more temperate climates down south
