amp wirhing
amp wirhing
hey all im installing an amp and i was wondering if i really need a remote turn on, and if i do i know that i need to splice of the blue antenna wire at the back of my head unit. But im confused do i just peel of some of the rubber on the blue antenna wire and solder on a wire to the amp, or is there more.
if you have a multimeter, touch any open wire and turn the car to acc., anything that reads 12v is fine.
like do this.
car off
touch open wire with the red probe, and with the black to any ground
it should read zero
turn car to acc.
look for a 12v reading.
done.
with a after market, itll be the blue wire coming off the harness from the back of the head unit. sometimes u will see two, one blue with white stripe and one just blue, one only works with like the a cd or something and one will always turn on the amp when the radio is on to any source.
there isnt anything special, it just needs to be the right wire.

yeah you wanna tap the remote-on lead, the power antenna lead will only power the amp when the unit is in Radio or Tuner mode, whatever it wants to call it.. id personally use connectors of some sort, how is your headunit harness connected to your car harness adaptor (the piece you buy to plug into your cars factory harness)... just do it the same way
but for the original question... YES the remote lead is imperative to the operation of your amp, if you tap it to a constant lead, the amp is always on, if you dont run it at all the amp will NEVER turn on

What amp do you have?
JL Slash series done require a remote lead, they use the input from the rca. But for the most part, you need that remote lead to turn on your amp so its not running your battery dead.
What year car do you have? Do you have the Bose? This might be easier than you think if you have a bose system since all the wires are already in the back for you.

Yeah, you can grab amp turn-on and speaker leads back there to do a line out converter or do high level inputs if the amp supports them. If you can't figure out which wires are speaker wires, your rear speaker leads should be right on the rear deck and you could just tap it in there, loom it up and make it look clean. Testing for the turn-on will be just like G22 said - I don't have access to the wiring here at home, I will get a copy when I go to work later and post it up if needed.
