Airbag Question

Can the Passenger Side air bag be replaced without removing the entire dashboard?

I've tried looking for a guide on here but have not been able to find it.
part of the problem may be that "air" and "bag" separately is an invalid search due to word length.. If there is a guide can someone please link it?

Also, here is my situation, i crashed my car.. air bags went off.. went and bought new air bags on ebay..

Can the SRS module be reprogrammed or do i need a new one?

What is the impact / crumple sensor at the front of the car actually called? I'm trying to buy the part but the guys at Acura can't seem to find it in their system.. its like a black peg/nipple at the front near the fenders..

Also.. if the airbag goes off does the clock spring in the steering wheel need to be replaced as well?

I'd really appreciate some help as i think my mechanic is not too familiar with airbag systems =\

air* bag* or *bag will work in the search. I'm pretty sure you can get to the screws from underneath. I was just under there the last 2 nights, but didn't think to look. I can check my shop manual this weekend and let you know.

Yes you can. You will have to drop down the glove box. There will be 3 or 4 nuts you will remove (can't remember how many). Make sure you disconnect the battery before you do it. You'll see the yellow connector for the airbag.

I was in the process of editing, but my 5 minutes ran out... to further explain...

Yes you can remove the airbag without taking the dash off. Make sure you disconnect the battery before you do it. You will have to drop down the glove box. There will be 4 nuts you will remove (I think it's 4). You'll see the yellow connector for the airbag. All airbag related connectors and harnesses are bright yellow, and all have a safety connector.

Sometimes you can have the SRS computer reprogrammed, but it cost almost as much as another module. You can typically get the modules for about $75 from a yard, or ebay.

The actual impact sensor is inside the SRS computer. Clock spring should be fine. As far as I know whatever is in the fenders is not part of the SRS system.

Did your windshield break or did you get lucky?

Windshield broke .. =\

Honestly the air bag didnt even need to go off.. My face didnt touch the bag.. just so happened where i hit was where the sensor is... both my fenders are unscathed..

Im confused now.. Acura is telling me theres no sensor at the front like i describe.. My Mechanic showed me what hes talking about on the passenger side... its like a black peg 1-2 inches long.. he said the one on the other side was broken and that it set off the airbags...

i wish i had a pic w/ me ..

So if the SRS computer has the sensor within it.. how does the sensor know the front end has received impact? what sets it off?

Nice..that's a good price.

I'm actually not sure what that thing is inside the fender, but inside the SRS computer there's a bearing or something that moves forward in an accident, which triggers the bags. I was told this by 2 different Honda techs. I have a bad one at home, I'll take it apart and check it out. We still need to figure out what the mystery sensor is??? Anyone??
