ahh the joys of riding low, my upper control arm is busted

so my cars been making some funky noises lately so I decided to jack it up and have a look see. It would make a nasty metal thunking noise when I turned my wheel fully and when I went over a hard bump

fantastic, my control arm is teh broken. does anyone know exactly what needs to be replaced and how much it might cost me?

ouch man. that sucks. I'd say you need a new upper control arm. I've busted on of those on my old lude, and it ran me about 80-90 bucks, i believe.

take that camber kit out :p

when baka t had his cl, he went through an arm or two and my other friend (III) went through about 4.

ridin low with the camber kit will be prone to fuckin shit up. i haven't gone through any control arms or ball joints yet :p prolly will never have to unless i go through a chasm or when i decide to run a camber kit.

looks like the baljoint is what's screwed up, not the actual control arm.

damn bro.

control arm

:edit: ghost makes a valid point.. it looks like it just may be the balljoint. was that a stock balljoint? or an aftermarket camber kit-adjustable joint?

That does look like the ball joint pressed itself out of the upper arm.

You can order the entire new arm from Honda and install it.

Else, I think you can get a replacement ball joint from Ingalls (to replace the OE ball joint.) My buddy schmiddy did this on his 99 Accord. No front camber kit, just an ingalls replacement joint.

If you replace the ball joint alone you will need a set of press tools for truck ball joints and some experimentation to get the old out and the new one in.

but the Honda arm alone would be much easier. You should be able to get a new arm for under ~100.

lnsyone, just curious, why would having camber kits fuck shit up? Im not running a ball joint camber kit, just the other kind.

thanks for all the info everyone else, im looking at getting this, it already comes with the ball joint.

you're car is almost 10 years old

wear and tear plus the added stress on your suspension from being slammed....sooner your later your ball joints were about to go.

just count your blessings you weren't flying down the highway and that thing went on you !

You can only correct so much camber at a certain height before you start bottoming out or have clearance issues. I think the reason why is because you dont have that much room to play with if your camber is corrected to 0 degrees (give or take several tenths or so). The angle of your control arm will be positioned more outward (or when the car is lowered back onto a flat surface the the angle of the arm will sit higher towards the top of the fenderwell depending on how low the drop is).

I dont know if what i wrote makes sense, but I'll go over it when I wake up from Stonerville.

if you're running a camber kit and the lower you go, the more issues you'll have with clearance and bottoming out. you'll bottom out driving on uneven roadways and also on shitty roads where pot holes and pot craters are present (if you're lowered more than 3" or so).

camber kits are good for those dropped around 2-2.5" (estimate) or less. on the flip side, it wouldnt be ideal for those lowered 3.25" or more.

i used to run on a 4.5"+ drop and i had no bottoming out issues with the exception of whacking minor shit here and there; but nothing i'd experience with a camber kit at my height. of course, the downside of running negative camber is the case of having to replace your tires. my front tires have the most obvious sign of camber wear and they've lasted about 4 months of driving until the steel belt started to show. my rears are holding up fine with minimal tread wear.

would a broken arm vibrate your wheel? or is it the bearing?
can someone help me on this one . .
