AEM CAI Install

I installed the AEM CAI w/ bypass on my 2.3 this afternoon. I didn't install the foam thing and the cap that was provided, my buddy at Nissan that basically installed it said he didn't think that applied to my car....was he wrong....I mean he's busy working on 350 Zs and Infinitys all day....what does he know. Did anyone else use the rubber cap and foamy thing?

It kinda makes this howling noise, kind of a weird resonance, is that normal, I had one on another car and didn't notice it.......but the resonance I can't get over quick because my car surely feels quicker and sounds like a fricking bad ass under wot....

Leftover parts?

No, it was listed on the parts supplied sheet. It is a foam filter thing about the size of a, um, of your finger nail. And, a little black cap. My CAI is very noisy, kind of annoying...that's why I think something is wrong.

intake install

rip out all the stock crap. that means
1. the intake tube
2. the big resonator box in the bumper
3. the air box
4. the little shit thing connected under the stock intake tube
5. all parts that hooked up to that thing. a bunch of hoses and
one electrical connector. that sytem is the A.I.R sytem and u
dont need it. ull see that all those little hoses trun into one that
goes up to the firewall.rip that hose off and cap that one line.
6. install aem intake
7. hook up hose from valve cover to aem intake
8. put air filter on intake and close up the wheel well
9. resest ur ecu. pull the fues in the box on the passenger side of car in engine bay or just discconnect battery. let it sit for awhile.
10. hook up battery or put fuse in
11. start car and let it warm up dont give it any gas untill warm.

I think i remember a foam thingy. I dont believe it went anywhere.

the cap goes where described in # 5

hope that helps

I have the dragon intake(short ram) and it also came with that second smaller foam filter. I didn't need to use it.

I finally got it all in but then I think I screwed up the hoses can you post a pic of your intake on the 2.2 or 2.3 so I can see which hoses go where? I started up the car and it almost dies because the idle is so low like 400rpm or something not enough gas? or air or I did something wrong like mentioned in step 5 don't really understand it. Man I thought I was smarter than this ARG... obviously not.

i dont have a first gen, but on the aem intake for my 01 there is a foam piece that goes around the outside of the bypass. don't really know what it does, but its gray foam and about as thick as a highlighter, wraps around the middle of the bypass

the problem was that the o2 sensor had not been plugged back in. If anybody besides me had no idea where to find that, it is on the top of the throttle body right by where the intake tube connects to the throttle body. it was dangling beneath some tubes so i never even saw it. its all good now...thanks for the help...
