adjusting the idle?
adjusting the idle?
can i adjust the idle rpm through the throttle cable? and why does the engine idle diffrently in Park and DRIVE?..like right now(engines warm),it idles at 1200 in park and arond 600 in drive...
please help..oh its a 97 3.0 cl

YES you can adjust the idle by means of the throttle cable. . . and it idles differently because in P or N the engine is disconnected from the tranny. . . in D or R it IS connected to the tranny, it idles lower because it has to spin the extra weight of the tranny
ok,you know that sticker on the hood ,it says 750 +/- 50 idle rpm...which gear is that reffering to..im afraid that if i keep it above 1000 on P it may damage the engine?..BUT as soon as i drop it into D it goes way down to about 550-650
THAT is a good question, I think its gonna refer to the idle when NOT in gear, so Park or Neutral. . . my 2.2 idles around 900-1000 all the time, its fine, really
its those low revs that concern me. . . when I drop it into gear my revs only drop around 100 or so to a good 7-800. . . it might be your 3.0s difference to my 2.2, but either way thats a pretty big jump
does it stutter at all when its revs drop???

well see the reason im even talking about all this is my weak, very weak start up( from a stop)..it feels like a 4cly has more power in the beggining, even my dad drove it he said'' i had to beat it up to feel the v-6 power''...and i been adjusting the throttle cable, but im having hard time distinguishing the changes through the diffrent gears, for example,do all gears idle higher if i increase the idle through the cable?,it doesnt ''stutter'' but like i said it feels weak from a stop, not ''brisk acceleration''

if you tension up the throttle cable youre forcing the butterfly to stay that certain ammount open at all times, so YES, itll affect it in all gears. . . you only really have to worry about idle when not in gear, and in 1st (stopped in gear) thats about it, the rest will pick up since youre already moving and the revs are alreadyt up there. . . but thats odd, and I gotta say the whole lack of acceleration thing is out of my league. . . sorry
